Our Best Tasting Yet - Caymus, Darioush, Duckhorn, Runquist and More!

Estate Wines vs. Second Labels
Saturday April 4th, 2009

11am- 8pm

With everyone looking for bargains these days we have put together what we think could be one of our most exciting and revealing tastings to date! Every year across the world some of the best wineries have leftover grapes, or have juice that simply does not make the cut to go into their flagship wines. “Second Wines”, as they are called, are wines that are made from grapes that grow in the same vineyards, they are made by the same winemakers, and in some cases they even age in the same barrels as the Estate wines.

The funny thing is that the difference in price between the flagship wine and the “second” label is usually pretty substantial.

Therefore we have put together a tasting featuring wonderful estate wines and their less expensive counterparts. You’ll get to taste for yourself whether the extra $$$ is actually worth paying. Our participants are:

2006 Caymus Special Select – 2006 Caymus Cabernet

2005 Darioush Estate Cabernet – 2006 Darioush “Caravan”

2005 Duckhorn “Goldeneye” Pinot Noir – 2006 Duckhorn “Migration” Pinot Noir

2006 Numanthia Tempranillo – 2006 Numanthia “Termes” Tempranillo

2005 Esther Nin “Corelium Priorat” – 2006 Esther Nin “Triumvirat” Priorat

2007 Adelsheim Willamette Valley Pinot Noir – 2007 Adelsheim “Wallace Brook” Pinot Noir

2004 Laurel Glen Estate Cabernet – 2005 Laurel Glen “Counterpoint”

2006 Atteca “Armas” – 2007 Atteca

2006 Newton “Unfiltered” Chardonnay – 2007 Newton Red Label Chardonnay

And…just for fun…

2006 Jeff Runquist Petite Sirah – 2007 McManis Petite Sirah (both made by Jeff Runquist!)

So come on in Saturday to taste some of the best wines in the world and their siblings...their "second" wines...
