Caymus Cabernet @ 14% Off

2007 Caymus Cabernet

Regular Price: $74.99

Winestore Price: $64.75 (net)

Save 14%

You're going to be reading a lot about the 2007 Vintage in California over the next several months. There is good reason - 2007 has produced some of the best Napa Cabs in a long time and most people are going to be seeking out the best producers with the best track record.

Chuck Wagner has been producing quality Napa Cabernet at Caymus Vineyards for over 30 years and the 2007 may be his best effort yet. We tasted this wine this morning and think you're going to be a little more than impressed :)

Right now, until we run out, we are offering this beautiful wine at 14% off - and you can rest assured you will not be able to find this wine at this price anywhere else in town. If you do, we will happily match the price.

Cali Chardonnay Taste Off!

California Chardonnay Taste Off
Featuring Kistler, Rombauer, Newton Unfiltered and more!

Saturday July 25th
11am-8pm

http://www.winemonger.com/catalog/winemonger-talk/wp-content/chardonnay_sign.jpg

Chardonnay is the most popular variety among U.S. wine drinkers. That, rather obvious, fact is all too often ignored by wine geeks who love to smirk about their latest “ABC” infatuation. “Anything but Chardonnay” may describe the interest level of many jaded wine aficionados, but it doesn’t speak to most wine drinkers. For most, Chardonnay is plenty tasty, and good values abound. Of all those Chardonnay lovers out there, it is the rich and buttery Chardonnay - the character that defines California - that gets people really excited.

Sooo...we decided that we all need to taste some of the greatest Chardonnays coming out of California, agasint each other, in an epic California Chardonnay taste off. We'll line all the wines up on the machine and let the grading begin. Each taster will be able to rate the wines 1-8 (1 being their favorite) and we will release the results next week (with perhaps a deal on the winner!)

If you are like us and love a great Cali Chard then be sure to stop in on Saturday - the wines we will be tasting include:

2007 Rombauer Chardonnay
2007 Kistler Chardonnay
2006 Walter Hansel Chardonnay
2008 Au Bon Climat Chardonnay
2006 Newton Unfiltered Chardonnay
2006 Brewer Clifton Chardonnay
2006 Lewis Chardonnay
A Surprise!

See you Saturday and Happy Tasting!

Taste Eric Solomon's Super Hyped 2007 Rhone Wines

Taste 2007 Rhone from Eric Solomon
Friday July 17th - Sunday July 19th
All Day long!

http://msnbcmedia3.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/040322/040322_shopping_wine_bcol1p.standard.jpg

There are lots of folks who import wines; it’s rare to find one with a track record and portfolio like Eric Solomon’s. His propensity for ferreting out great wines and greater values from Spain and France has kept him in the ranks of the top importers for nearly two decades. His Spanish portfolio is legendary; other than Stephen Metzler and Jorge Ordonez, no one had greater insight into the juggernaut that Spain was about to become, and no one has built a more brilliant Spanish portfolio. Eric has Niepoort from Portugal, the most dynamic producer in all the Douro Valley, if not in Portugal.

But his French book may be scarier still, especially if you're an importer trying to compete with him. The stable includes Chateau Tirecul in Monbazillac, Jean Paul Droin in Chablis and Roger Champault in the Loire. Solomon’s experience in southern France pays off with fantastic values in the Languedoc and Roussillon, as well as the southern Rhone: Domaine de l’Hortus, Clos du Prieur, la Casenove, Clos des Fees, Lafage and Matassa, among others.

In the sourthern Rhone, Domaine de la Janasse, Roger Sabon, and Domaine Marcoux in Chateauneuf-du-Pape are all the rage at the moment among the critics, and for good reason. They make utterly lush and delicious wines, and yet they are not wines that have sold their souls (ya know, with high alcohol, over-extraction, too much oak and the like) in order to get blessedly high scores from he-who-must-not-be-named. These wines are rich and impressive but they not only retain their souls, they HAVE soul. Character. Personality. Whatever.

The last several vintages have been excessively kind to the Rhone, especially the southern Rhone. 2004 (lovely), 2005 (stunning, amazing), 2006 (rich and decadent) and 2007, a vintage even he-who-must-not-named loves and raves. So do I. The 2007's are, well, I have coined a new word to describe them: sickdiculous.

Solomon's book is an embarrassment of riches. We are delighted that he lives in Charlotte and that we have the opportunity to offer so many of his fabulous wines. And we are even more excited to show his 2007 Rhone's this Saturday.

Here are just some of the wines we will be tasting this weekend:

2007 Giraud Tradition Chateauneuf du Pape

2007 Marcoux Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge

2007 Marcoux Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc

2007 Janasse Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge

2007 Janasse Cotes du Rhone-Villages Terre Argile

2007 Janasse Chateauneuf du Pape “Cuvee Chaupin”

2007 Sabon Chateauneuf du Pape “Cuvee Prestige

Happy Tasting and we will see you this weekend!

2006 Creta Roble 750ML

A Winestore Exclusive in North Carolina from Eric Solomon

Price: $14.99

One Day Only Case Price: $155.88 ($12.99 a bottle)

Case price available today, July 10th Only

Creta is a brand new project created in Ribera del Duero (Spain) by Charlotte resident Eric Solomon and Isaac Fernandez. You've heard us wax poetic about wines from Ribera del Duero like AALTO and many others - only problem is that the big wines come with big price tags. That is why our jaws hit the floor when we found out that this 100% Tempranillo was only $14.99 a bottle - we liked it so much we bought up the entire North Carolina allocation!

We've decided to offer this wine at a special case price of only $155.88 a case or $12.99 a bottle for today only. The wine will be on the machine all weekend long during our new arrivals tasting and we're pretty darn confident you will enjoy it as much as we have....Happy Drinking and as always we appreciate your business!
