We've been bringing some amazing deals all year long and we decided to cap the year off with a bang. Our distributors are taxed on the value of their remaining inventory at the end of the year, so a lot of them are looking to push some product out the door at the last second. We've been working the last 24 hours to hammer these deals out and lets just say some of them are OFF THE CHARTS. Two days only - all the wine arrives tomorrow. You can call in today to purchase and reserve your wines and we'll have them ready for you tomorrow!

All prices are net and not available for further discount.

Last Call on T Solomon Wellborn Pinot Noir

One of the Rarest Pinot's in the Country

LAST CALL!!

You all snapped up the T Solomon Wellborn deal we offered back in late September in record time! We now have had our last drop of this wine arrive (it came in yesterday) and after that this deal is DONE until the wine is made again (it is not produced in every vintage). Do not miss out on some amazing wine at an even more amazing price! Tantara Winery has an impeccable reputation as being one of California's premier Pinot Noir producers. Its flagship wine Evelyn’s Cuvee, priced at a not so friendly $80 per bottle is cherished by Pinot Noir aficionados around the nation. After selecting the barrels that go into its single-vineyard Pinot program – Pisoni, La Colline, Rio Vista (bottlings that range in price from $40 to $70 each) -- there will be a small number left over that just don’t quite make the "cut". If there are enough of them to make a few hundred cases, winemaker Jeffrey Fink bottles them under the T. Solomon Wellborn label. Director of Sales Ernie Vandegrift, over the last three years, has allowed Winestore. to be the only retailer outside of California to sell this wine (and one of only two in the USA). This year we have a bit more but we don't expect it to last long! Our advice after tasting it: stock up and buy as much as you can. Who knows if there will be another one next year?

2008 T Solomon Wellborn

Our Wine of the Year?

2007 Mas Doix Salanques
http://www.europeancellars.com/webmedia/Salanques%20Label1.jpg

Previous Vintages of this Wine: $50.00
2007 Salanques: $29.99
Full Case Price: $24.99 per bottle

Blend of 65% Garnacha, 15% Cariñena, 10% Syrah, 5% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon

We're not big on lists, or points, or force rankings or anything of the sort when it comes to something as subjective as ones taste. That being said, when we first tasted this wine back in August and found out that the retail price was being moved from $50 to $30 we almost fell out of our chair. Mas Doix has long been one of our favorite producers, and Salanques is quite the gem in their portfolio. This rich, dense Priorat is from a brilliant vintage, and at a price that's a remarkable value. That's because Salenques is the young vines version of the great Mas Doix estate bottling in Priorat. So instead of century old vines, these vines are just a bunch of rowdy youngsters at about seventy years of age. Just think...Mas Doix makes a wine called "Doix" that carries a price tag of $110.00. Salanques is the juice that did not make the cut for "Doix" and it is $29.99 per bottle - we are talking extreme value here.

We've got the wine on the machine for you to taste and see for yourself, but we are here to say - based on a case price of $24.99 (heck - mix it in a case this weekend and get it for $25.50), this is the best $25 wine we have ever offered in our store and is the best wine in terms of the quality to price ratio that we have offered this year. Maybe this will be your first Grenache based wine, maybe this will be your first wine from the Priorat region, but do yourself a favor and grab a bottle of this. This is as close to a sure thing as it gets in the world of wine.

Other notables this year!

http://www.zachys.com/UploadedImages/Image_Gallery/Product_Images/Garrigue_CDR_CuveeRomaine.jpg

2009 Domaine la Garrigue Cuvee Romaine
Price: $14.99

You're going to be hearing a lot about the 2009 vintage in the Rhone Valley of France over the next several months, and Domaine La Garrigue Cuvee Romaine is probably the perfect example of what a high quality value wine is all about. A joint project between Eric Solomon and the Bernard family that owns the wonderful Gigondas restaurant, Les Florets, along with brilliant oenologist, Philippe Cambie - this is full throttle wine that is always one of our best sellers year in and year out.

http://www.lawineco.com/images/medium/leese_fitch_cab_MED.jpg

2009 Leese Fitch Cabernet
Price: $9.99

Our delivery driver recently opined that "You guys are selling this stuff like crack" - and we are going to take that as a compliment ;) Regular winestore customers most certianly have bought a bottle of this little beauty over the last several months and if you haven't tried it yet, you indeed have been missing something. Outstanding California Cabernet for less than $10 is tough to find sometimes, and this wine delivers in spades.

December 9th - December 12th, 2010

http://www.esigns.com/stock%20pics/christmas-sale.jpg

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone the holiday party season is in full swing. You've probably received multiple clever invitations and sent at least one of your own, but the question remains: what wines should I serve and what exactly makes a wine a good "party" wine.

We've put together some simple guidelines for you to follow in the hopes of making your life easier this holiday season. Remember, these aren't rules (we don't like rules), merely some suggestions. Rules are for wine snobs, and let's face it, you didn't invite them to your party anyway.

#1. Party wines need the ability to pair with many different foods.
It's a pretty safe bet that you're serving a wide variety of foods and need a wine that goes with everything from cheese to those mini cocktail wieners. You'll probably never hear Bob Parker say, "This cab is a hedonist's delight, filled with black fruits and perfect for cocktail wieners." I really wish he would though. With this in mind, you might want to find a Red and White that are overall crowd pleasers and don't paint yourself into a corner with an obscure wine that tastes like "Chestnuts and shoe leather" or anything like that.

#2 Budget, Budget, Budget
If your friends are anything like mine, then they tend to sport-drink at parties. Basically they only notice the wine if it's REALLY bad. Other than that, they just happy to be socializing with friends and even though the wine may be delicious, it's not likely to be the first thing on their mind. Given this, there's really no need to break the bank when buying a case or more of party wine (hence our 15% discount). I know, you never expect your average retailer to tell you "spend less money," but we didn't set out to be an average retailer. We figure that Charlotte has plenty of those.

#3 Easy Access?
If there's ever a time in life where a screw cap comes in handy, it's when Cheryl from the office just polished off her third bottle of Chard and you're in charge of opening the wines. Just a thought.

#4 Experiment
Don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. Try an Albarino instead of Pinot Grigio, or a Grenache instead of Cab. It's your party and a perfect time to introduce your friends to some wines that they may or may not ever had before. You'll probably be surprised by their response. Besides, what better impression to leave on your guests than "Amy really knows her wines." You can just smile, nod, and never tell them that it was $9.

#5 The only rule is that there are no rules
Well, actually, there is one rule. Don't drink and drive. Other than that, have fun, be goofy, and enjoy the time with your friends and family. If the wine is preventing your friends from having fun, then you should consider revising your invitation list.

Cheers!

Taste 1976 & 1986 Heitz Bella Oaks Cabernet this Saturday!

Taste 1976 & 1986 Heitz Bella Oaks!
Saturday November 20th, 2010
11am - until the wine runs out!

http://vinolist.com/pics/c/a8/1110911_r0.jpg

Perhaps a once in a lifetime tasting! Wine was sourced directly from the private cellar of Martha's Vineyard owner Barney Rhodes!

Cult wines come and go, and that means that the extravagantly expensive wine you saved up for won't be worth as much as you hoped in a decade or two. But isn't that the definition of a cult wine? I mean Russ Meyers movies are cultish now, but twenty years ago, they were considered trash and perhaps twenty years hence, they won't be considered so great (although I still think Mudhoney and Faster Pussycat Kill Kill! are as good as movies need to be). Real cult objects are those that aren't valued as much as they should be, until time's light shines more radiantly upon them and the world realizes what fools they've been to overlook them.

Today's cult wines are just plain expensive. I doubt that they will accrue in value but since I don't collect them, that's someone else's problem. Meanwhile, yesterday's cult wines were actually affordable, at least once upon a time. And tip top of the cult list a few decades ago was Heitz's Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Perhaps it won't surprise anyone that I was never enamored of the wine; the minty eucalypt character was not only too much for me, in certain years, like 1976 (a drought year) it was fairly close to disgusting. But that's me.

It's not that I didn't like Heitz, but what I loved about Heitz was the Bella Oaks Vineyard: no disgusting minty eucalyptus, just pure, delightful fruit with a background of dustiness and spice. In 1976, for instance, it was gorgeous. And for some strange reason (wine sometimes goes like this), the 1986 and the 1996 echoed that lovely character in Bella Oaks.

Indeed, I have consistently enthused over those wines as much as anything the winery ever made, including the much vaunted and mythical 1974 Martha's Vineyard. I'm old, you see, so I drank my fill of it, and frankly, it wasn't that good. Heck the 1975 was better than the 1974. And Bella Oaks? I'm just saying: better, better-balanced, perhaps even longer-lived, but worth every penny and somebody's cult wine. Maybe just mine, maybe somebody's cult wine today or tomorrow. Not as buxom as a Russ Meyer's starlet, and not at all trashy, but still worth re-visiting over and over again.

Happy Tasting and we'll see you Saturday!

Cheers,

Doug Frost MS MW

It's gonna get a little chilly this weekend - and nothing pairs better with cold weather than a big, hearty red wine. People absolutely LOVE really big wine. Wine that stains the teeth, enough alcohol to run your hybrid and thick jammy fruit. Well, we decided to go out and find some of the absolute biggest flavored wines that exist on the planet. Big grenache from Spain, gigantic Cabernet from Napa, and even some big Bordeaux from the amazing 2005 vintage. There are some wine writers that would describe these wines as "Hedonistic Thermonuclear Fruit Bombs" and that is exactly what these are...

Sooo - if you are looking to enjoy some really amazing wine this weekend, here are a few of the gems that we will have on the machine on Saturday:

2007 Alto Moncayo Aquilon
2007 Klinker Brick "Old Ghost" Zinfandel
2008 K Vintners "The Creator"
2008 T. Solomon Wellborn Pinot Noir
2005 Chateau Tour Haut Moulin
2006 Benjamin Romeo "Predicador"
2008 Orin Swift "The Prisoner"
2008 Giacomo Conterno Barbera

So, call your best friends, draw straws to see who's going to be the D.D. and bring everyone to the tasting! The wines are going to be AMAZING!!!

Saturday October 30th, 2010
11am - 8pm

International Wine Celebrity / Importer and Charlottean Eric Solomon is well known for bringing "the next big thing" to the United States - and his new import, La Peira, might very well be "the next big thing". We've been selling these wines whenever we can find them over the last year and the consensus from you all has been "How do we get more?!?!" So this weekend is the very first time we will be able to showcase the entire lineup of La Peira wines! Their flagship wine "La Peira" has an annual worldwide production of only 1,200 bottles (compare that to the 420,000 bottle production of Caymus Cabernet) and even their less expensive offerings are offered only in minuscule quantities. That is why we are more than excited to continue to be one of the only places in the country to showcase these wines for you.

Here is just a little of what the wine world has been saying:

I want to put forth a terrific wine recommendation to you all. It is a wine I had never heard of before, but one I surely won’t forget any time soon.

My friend Eric Solomon was kind enough to gift me a bottle of “La Peira”. I believe (although I am not 100% sure) it is a cuvée of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre and just an absolutely delicious and complex wine in every sense.

It has exactly what I cherish in a wine and what I strive for with my own wines – a sunny disposition, full, ripe flavors, but nothing at all over the top here, nothing two-square or clumsy, but rather just a delightful potpourri of dark berry fruit and maybe some dried flowers….if memory serves correctly. Beautifully nuanced and layered, thought provoking and detailed, but rich and mouth-coating at the same time. What a wine.

I have no idea what it costs, but just about whatever it is –buy it!

One of best new wine discoveries for me this year so far.
- Manfred Krankl (Winemaker and Owner of Cult Wine Legend Sine Qua Non)

"The flagship wine from this new venture is easily going to be the next great global cult wine. Think Clos Erasmus or Masseto; that’s the level of quality that this wine brings!"
- Gary Vaynerchuk

"This wine will ring changes on your palate for a decade. The deep alluvial fan that is the basis for this site is only barely tilted, as it might be in St. Helena or Rutherford, St.-Estephe or Pomerol ... and these comparisons will not seem inapt once you experience the quality of La Peira’s wines."
- Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The most apt analogy, perhaps, is the publisher’s slush pile—that legendary stack of unsolicited manuscripts where, sandwiched between laborious first novels, eccentric diets, and the childhood reminiscences of the elderly, the house reader dreams of finding a golden text to wave at cynical seniors. So with the samples delivered to the homes of those who write about wine. All deserve a taste, most a note, but I’ve never come across one that rearranged my inner pantheon in the way that truly great wine can. Never, that is, until a few weeks ago. Then it was that a relatively ramshackle package of boxes arrived from the Languedoc containing 11 bottles and a text. The bottles (cask samples, in the main) had beautiful, austerely classical labels with puzzling, hard-to-pronounce names. No UK importer, let alone retailer. Just an apologetic e-mail, a few days earlier, from one of the wine’s creators, Rob Dougan, alluding to their presence a year before at a tasting in Bordeaux that I’d been unable to attend. Enough waffle. These are the best unsolicited samples anyone has ever sent me."
-Andrew Jefford

Wine arrives tomorrow - October 28th, 2010

You all snapped up the Meyer Syrah deal we offered back in September in record time! We now have our last drop of this wine arriving tomorrow and after that this deal is DONE. Do not miss out on some amazing wine at an even more amazing price! An ultra famous wine name (the Meyer Family of Silver Oak fame), a ridiculous savings, and a price point where everyone can enjoy the wine without busting the budget.

One of the state’s iconic wine brands, Meyer Family Cellars occupies a unique place in the story of California wine. It was established in 1987 by Silver Oak founders and former owners Justin and Bonny Meyer, who dreamt of a family wine brand that drew upon their extensive experience in the Napa and Alexander Valleys. Now, we have the opportunity to offer you their award winning Syrah (which is actually a blend of 91% Syrah and the rest Malbec, Grenache, and Cabernet) at $14.99 or 46% off the winery price.

We think you'll find this wine (much like we did), an absolute steal for only $15.
