Better than Rombauer for $14.99?

2012 Banshee Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

Winery Price: $25.00 (Click HERE to see)
Winestore Price: $19.99
Six Pack Price: $14.99*

SAVE 40%

*six pack price only available in store or over the phone. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The runaway success of the Banshee Mordecai red blend led us to ask "Do these guys make other wines?". Of course. Then all this Rombauer 2012 hype led us to ask ourselves, "Could their Chardonnay give Rombauer a run for its money?"

While this wine isn't as heavy as Rombauer, this may be the perfect "in between" Chardonnay. Not as heavy as a Rombauer, yet not as light as some stainless steel Chardonnays. Some of the lots had full malolactic fermentation (the process that gives you that butter and creaminess) and some lots had none at all. Some lots saw oak treatment, and some saw only stainless. Basically this is a little bit of everything you love about California Chardonnay, but not too much of it to make it appear over the top.

We think you're gonna be loving this stuff as much as we do - and for $14.99 per bottle when you buy six or more, this is a screaming value.

Vintage Rhone Tasting!

Vintage Rhone Tasting!
Saturday July 27th, 2013
11am - 8pm

http://conqueringthecenturyclub.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/chateauneuf-sign.jpg

What top critics are saying about some of the wines we are tasting:

2007 Domaine de la Janasse XXL

"Several California Rhone Ranger winemakers told me they thought this was the greatest Chateauneuf du Pape they ever tasted, which didn’t really surprise me because it is a singularly great wine...in 20 or so years (it) will be considered to be a legend of Chateauneuf du Pape"
- Robert Parker

2007 Domaine Marcoux Vieilles Vignes

"I wonder which of my daughters I should trade for some of this."
- Steven Tanzer's Wine Access

The Full Lineup:
2007 Domaine de la Janasse XXL
2007 Domaine Marcoux Vieilles Vignes
2004 Domaine de la Janasse Cuvee Chaupin
2000 Domaine Marcoux Chateauneuf du Pape
2001 Domaine Marcoux Chateauneuf du Pape
2009 Domaine de la Janasse Vieilles Vignes

and probably a few others!!

There have been times when we have put together a pretty strong tasting lineup for a Saturday tasting. That said, I can't remember one that had a lineup as strong as this one. If you are a lover of fine wine in the very least, you should swing by any of our three stores on Saturday and taste these gems. It also should be noted we will be offering them to you at the lowest prices in the US.

Thirteen year old Chateauneuf du Papes and "virtual" wines that many have never even seen a bottle of...this is the kind of stuff we are rolling out. Domaine de la Janasse and Domaine Marcoux are all the rage at the moment among the critics, and for good reason. They make utterly lush and delicious wines, and yet they are not wines that have sold their souls (ya know, with high alcohol, over-extraction, too much oak and the like) in order to get blessed from he-who-must-not-be-named. These wines are rich and impressive, but they not only retain their souls, they HAVE soul. Character. Personality. Whatever.

Maybe California Cabernet is your thing and you just are not that into wines from the Southern Rhone. Well, this is your chance to see what you have been missing. Maybe you are a huge fan of Chateauneuf. Well, this is your dream tasting. Maybe you have no idea what any of this means and you are curious. Follow your instincts and come on by! If you love wine, love good wine, love trying new things and love a good time - you may want to swing by on Saturday. If you do not like wine, do not like trying new things and do not enjoy a good time - this may not be up your alley :)

As always, THANK YOU for your business and we hope to see you Saturday. The wines should be off the charts.

Grand Cru Burgundy for $11.99?

2010 Capcanes "Mas Donis"

Release Price: $15.99 (Click HERE to see)
Winestore Price: $11.99
SAVE 25%

Lowest Price In The USA!

Now we know why we were able to secure such a great price for you on the 2009 Mas Donis...everyone was clamoring for the 2010! Apparently world renowned wine critic Robert Parker is all in on the latest vintage of this inexpensive superstar.

You know that we love this wine, and you know we think RP tends to jump on the hyperbole train from time to time, but whenever he says that a wine that costs only $11.99 - "...could easily pass for a grand cru Burgundy - it's that complex and interesting. I am blown away by what's in the bottle, but you be the judge" - you have to pay attention.

So we will let you be the judge...and we are bringing you the product at the lowest price in the US, because that's how we roll. Added bonus - we have it on the tasting machine at all three stores right now!!

As always, THANK YOU for your business and we hope to see you soon!

2011 La Bruja Averia Garnacha
2008 Sabon Lirac
2012 Niel Santofimia

Our mention of low prices in the newsletter yesterday got us thinking. Many of you know that we guarantee to offer the lowest prices in North Carolina, but did you also know that we offer the lowest price in the USA on many wines? That's right - there are many great wines here at winestore that cannot be had for a lower price - not at Costco, not at Total Wine, not online...you get the picture. So we are going to put just about all those on the machines this weekend for you to taste!

Yes, it is possible to have incredible quality at incredible prices and these wines are proof positive. French Lirac for $9.99? You got it. California Pinot Noir for $14.99? No problem. $50 wine for $25? It's right here. We get excited about wine. I mean, it's what we do for a living. That being said, the thing that really gets us pumped up is amazing wine that goes easy on the pocketbook.

So swing in on Saturday, try some wine, save a ton of money, and spend some QT with your friends here at winestore (we love seeing you!).

As always, THANK YOU for your business!

Our 2012 Wine Of The Year For $14.99!

2009 Closa Batllet "Artai"

Regular Price: $24.99
SALE Price: $14.99 (net)
SAVE 40%

The wine world is an odd place to do business. Each state in our union has its own set of alcohol laws with its own set of distributors and basically no two are alike. 99.9% of the time this simply results in headaches for the consumer (try shipping a bottle of wine to your friend in Pennsylvania) but that 0.1% of the time could result in something special. When we heard of a distributor in a neighboring state that was having, shall we say, "financial difficulty", we pounced at the opportunity to work with our NC partners to bring some of his inventory to our great state at a discount. Once we got a look at his stock we almost fell out of our chair when we noticed our 2012 Wine Of The Year "Closa Batllet Artai" in his warehouse.

Long story short - we went with a lowball offer - and voila! We have an insane wine available for you at an equally insane price. Priorat is for people who want big wine, gorilla big, glowering and roaring in front of winedom's schoolchildren. This wine is a perfect example of that - and in terms of Priorat it just went from a real value wine to an extreme value.

We hope you enjoy this find!!

I like sweet wine and I am man enough to admit it!

This is the time of year when I'm opening Rieslings; hot and humid weather seems to call for the lightest, crispest, cool-to-cold wines possible. For many of us, that means Riesling, though Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Pinot Grigio (to name a few) could probably answer the call of thirst just as effectively.

But Riesling is one of the fastest growing white varietals in the US marketplace and has been for years. "Wait!" I can hear some protest, "I don't like sweet wine." Well, that's just fine with me. I do like sweet wine and I'm man enough to admit it.

But Riesling doesn't have to be sweet: the Aussies in particular have brought a lot of very nice Riesling into the US, most of which is relatively dry. The Austrians too make excellent dry Riesling; I drink those too. But I've long believed that Rieslings are brilliant food wines, especially when they're a little bit sweet. Why? Because, for one, many popular dishes have some sweetness to them, including many Asian cuisines. Heck, some chefs finish their marinara with a secret dose of sugar. When the ingredients on a plate are sweeter than the wine they're accompanying, the wine can seem tart and even slightly bitter to some people.

Moreover, I love spicy foods and the heat receptors in the mouth, the ones that tell you something spicy is "hot", can actually be fooled by something sweet, just the same way they can be cooled by dairy products. A sweet wine can douse the fire from that Thai Crazy Salad or an overdose of somebody's hot barbeque sauce.

Riesling too has the remarkable ability to be loaded with aromas and flavors even when very light weight, even when it is not particularly ripe. A typical German Riesling from the Mosel Valley usually has less than ten percent alcohol, yet the wine is chockfull of flavor and character. You've probably never tasted a Chardonnay with less than ten percent alcohol, but I can assure you that there's nothing very likeable about such a tart, unripe Chardonnay.

And Riesling usually exhibits lip-smacking tartness, at least when it's grown in the world's favored spots for the grape: Germany, Austria, Alsace in France, a few cool spots in Australia, lots of places in New Zealand and the Pacific Northwest, Michigan and New York.

Plenty of other white wines have that tart propensity too, but few seem to balance it so skillfully against rich fruitiness as the Germans. Their favored vineyards exist at sometimes-dizzying slopes, facing mostly south, and angled to soak up every ray of sun in an otherwise cool climate. Without their perfect vineyards, German Rieslings would be tart only, and couldn't convey their cornucopia of flowers and fruits: peach, apricot, nectarine, apple, pear, mango, pineapple, lemon, lime and orange.

And whether sweet or dry, the extreme tartness of many so-called sweet German Rieslings is such that the words "sweet" and "tart" quickly lose their meanings. As my eldest daughter has pointed out for years, her favorite German wines start sweet and finish dry. And that, on this mid-summers day,  sounds perfect.

If the Price is Right Get 15% Off!

Play the Price is Right
Saturday July 13th, 2013

It's time for our 4th Annual Price is Right Tasting (1st Annual at Lake Norman :), which is a little bit of a twist on our traditional blind tastings. Most people say they can tell if a wine is more expensive simply based on the taste. Well, this weekend you're going to get to test that theory with a little game of The Price is Right! (Unfortunately we could not fit a Plinko board into the store, so we're simply going to have to settle with using the tasting machines).

Eight red wines and four white wines will all be covered up blind, and each will be the same price to taste $0.75. You will then be given a sheet with 12 different prices on it to use as your guide. If you can match the correct price to the correct wine you will get 15% off each wine guessed correctly! Your 15% discount will apply to as much as you would like to buy of that particular wine.

Given how great this tasting has been the last three years, we know this will be a ton of fun (and we'll be playing Beach Music all day just because it is summer and we love it!). We've done plenty of blind tastings where we thought that $50 Cab was a $12 daily drinker...so we know how fun it is to guess completely wrong. If, however, you guess correct - your pocketbook is going to be thanking you!

Happy Tasting and we'll see you on Saturday!

56% Off This Special Wine!

2009 Mustiguillo "Quincha Corral"

Release Price: $89.99 (Click HERE to see)
Winestore Price: $39.99 (net)
SAVE 56%

ONLY 60 BOTTLES AVAILABLE

Sometimes we have to bring you deals that are not always around $10. That said, when we bring you something that is as pricey as this wine, you better believe this is some special stuff. We have long had a love affair with Bodegas Mustiguillo, and you have loved on some of their more inexpensive offerings like Mestis, and Finca Terrerazzo. Now it is time to love on some Quincha Corral.

Quincha Corral is a genial, affable wine, it could be argued: the Bobal grape is a delightful fruit bomb, if wholly unknown outside of a handful of vineyards in southern Spain. The world shall soon know of its greatness, but until then you get to be the smartest person in the room. Bodegas Mustiguillo is the king of Bobal and one of the greatest estates of southern Spain.

Quincha is a flagship wine, at a flagship price....but you get to enjoy it at a more frielndly rate. While this is certainly no daily drinker, perhaps you want to stock one away for a special occassion, or perhaps you want to share one with some friends over a steak this Saturday (that is what we are doing). So expand your drinking horizons this week, and be the coolest person in the room at the same time.

Organic / Biodynamic Cotes du Rhone For A Song!

2011 Domaine Charvin "A Cote"

Release Price: $15.00
Winestore Price: $12.99
Save an additional 10% on mix and match cases!

Lowest Price in the USA

Is there an organic / bio-dynamic wine that is inexpensive and absolutely delicious? Yes...this one. Domaine Charvin makes some of the best Chateauneuf du Pape on the planet but they also create some inexpensive offerings from their land holdings. Their entry level "A Cote" which roughly translates "next to" is supposed to tell you this is a serious wine harvested from vineyards right next to flagship vineyards for a fraction of the price.

2011 is one of those vintages that shows the southern Rhone at its sunny, fruity spicy best and Charvin always represents some of the best values in any given vintage, especially one like 2011. Never heard of Domaine Charvin? Well, a good friend of ours happened to produce a short film on the winery which is available for free out on the interwebs. If you want to really get geeky and learn a little more about this estate you can watch the film by clicking HERE.
