THE Wine of Summer?

2013 Whispering Angel

2013 Whispering Angel Rosé
Winestore Price: $17.99 (net)

It's getting hot...and humid...and in my house that means we drink more rosé. Why? Because it is a refreshing food friendly beverage that will delight on a hot summer day.

Now we sell all sorts of dry rosé, but there is one Rosé of the moment right now that is sweeping the nation like wildfire - and it's called Whispering Angel. There are all sorts of stories flying around - helicopter rides back into NYC from the Hamptons because there is none to be found on Long Island; long lines in Miami at liquor stores before stores even open to grab what product they have coming in for the weekend. It's basically like THIS scene during the height of the Cabbage Patch craze. (Seriously the video in that link is amazing - you will want to watch it)

No doubt the wine is pretty delicious, hence the reason we are bringing it to you today. Worth of all the hype? We'll let you decide. Know this though - will do not accept bribes and we will not tolerate customers getting in fisticuffs over a bottle of wine :)

Come on in and see what all the fuss is about!

Taste The Best For Father's Day!

Father's Day Tasting!
Saturday June 14th, 2014
11am - 8pm
ALL DAY LONG!

http://gothamist.com/attachments/arts_jamie/dec511repeal.jpg

Featuring:
2012 Caymus Cabernet 40th Anniversary
2013 Belle Glos Clark & Telephone
2010 Montevetrano
2011 Merry Edwards Russian River Pinot Noir
2012 Eric Kent Small Town Pinot Noir
2005 Laurel Glen Estate Cabernet
2012 Tantara Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir
2011 Clos Erasmus "Laurel" (There was no Erasmus in 2011)

They say that men are better than woman at math, but then the people who usually say that are men. Go figure. When it's comes to figuring, we're told that men are better with numbers, with figures (I feel a pun coming on but I'm going to back away quietly from that one), that there is something about the certitude of numerical depiction that appeals to a man. Or maybe that men are just obsessed with numbers: .300 batting averages, 50 quarterback ratings, triple doubles or maybe even a 5 handicap.

Maybe this is why the 100-point system appeals to so many men. Despite the inherent ambiguity of wine (it changes, some people like certain styles more than others), there is something so reassuring about knowing that the god of wine has assigned it a number and now you know that your cellar has thirty 95 point wines and above (and that you still don't have a 100 point wine notched on your bedpost, I mean gun).

Fret not, gentlemen, numbers mean nothing! Taste is everything (like the beer commercial says); so why not enjoy Father's Day weekend tasting some of the most delicious wines any father (or son of a father) could hope to taste?

So this weekend we're rolling out the big dogs of the world of winedom. Italian cult wine Montevetrano - check. Cabernet powerhouse Caymus - check. 1st Growth Bordeaux dead ringer Laurel Glen - double check. It's like a who's who of wine superstars, all rolled out on our tasting machines for your drinking pleasure.

Best of all, the wines we're tasting this weekend for Father's Day are worth many, many points. How many points? Well, that's up to you. You're the numbers man.

Happy Tasting and we'll see you Saturday!

T Solomon Wellborn Pinot Noir Is Back! Kindof....

2012 Tantara Santa Barbara Pinot

2012 Tantara Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir
Winestore Price: $24.99

Many of you may remember the T. Solomon Wellborn Pinot Noir from a few years ago - you know, the Tantara Pinot Noir that was priced at $25 that we sold like crazy. Then Tantara stopped making the wine. Needless to say that was no bueno.

All of a sudden we are informed that while T. Solomon is still no longer in existence, Tantara is taking the EXACT SAME JUICE and bottling under a new label for them - Tantara Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir. Probably a good move on their part as it helps build the Tantara brand vs. T. Solomon which was just a cool label with Tantara nowhere except on the cork....and yes, this is still a blend of barrels that don't make the cut for their single vineyard bottlings (which are priced at not so friendly prices of $50 and up).

So, we are back in the Tantara game - and of course this stuff is as delicious as ever. If you were a T. Solomon Wellborn fan or you just are a fan of great $25 and under Pinot Noir, this is right in your killzone.

Chardonnay Lovers - Do Not Miss This Wine!

2013 Waccamaw Chardonnay

Release Price: $24.99
Winestore Price: $14.99
Six Pack Price: $12.99 per bottle*
SAVE 50%

*Six pack price only available in store / over the phone orders

More wine from your friends at Banshee. You most likely by now have had yourself a bottle of Waccamaw Proprietary Red, and if sales are any indication you guys are absolutely loving it. Once we found out they made a Chardonnay as well (and had the opportunity to taste this little gem) we pounced like a cheetah and bought all we could get our hands on.

This Chardonnay embodies everything we look for in the Californian version of this varietal. Some butter, some oak - but nothing too over the top or pronounced. Perfect harmony so it can pair well with food, or with just sitting on our back deck and soaking up some rays.

Given the gigantic chunk we bought of this wine, we also are able to offer it to you at a pretty insane price. While we will have this wine available to taste at all 3 stores for FREE all day today, we will have it on the machine all week for you to take a test drive. We're pretty sure this may become your new house Chardonnay....it sure is ours.

It is officially summer - I know, it feels weird to say that...heck, just the other day we were all complaining about the long winter and now, BAM, it's sum sum summertime.

Well, here at winestore. when summer rolls in, we need a summer white to roll in as well. We're not talking change your life / it's gonna be the next big thing white wine. We're talking sub $10 drink by the pool in a plastic cup and it still tastes amazing white wine. You know the kind we are talking about....

So today we offer you the 2013 Mont Gravet Cotes du Gascogne - which is 100% Colombard. The Colombard grape makes some really great and crazy Armagnac but the French folks living in the Cotes de Gascogne also chug down buckets of the wine as a crisp, refreshing, ideal quaff. We are firm believers at this point that you should too.

So let's get on it people. It's sunny. It's Wednesday. It's summer. Let's drink some great, inexpensive white wine!

2012 Vacheron Sancerre

Release Price: $39.99
Winestore Price: $24.99
SAVE 37%

Save an additional 5% on six and 10% on twelve (mix and match)

We've been getting inundated with requests for Sancerre now that the weather is warming up. We have typically carried all sorts of French Sauvignon Blanc that could easily pass for Sancerre, but we have had a hard time finding the real thing at a friendly price. In walks 2012 Vacheron Sancerre for only $24.99 - and we pounced.

Every region has its champions, even if it’s unfair to single out particular producers when the ancient Sauvignon Blanc area has so many heroes. But Vacheron is one of those great winemakers; and in a vintage as lush as 2012, this is just plain fabulous.

So if you love Sancerre, love Sauvignon Blanc, love white wine, or just need some goodies for the holiday weekend, come and get it!

2012 Caymus Cabernet

2012 Caymus "40th Anniversary" Cabernet
Winestore Price: $54.99

Save an additional 5% on six or 10% in a case (mix and match)

We most likely don't need to tell you anything about Caymus Cabernet, right? I mean it is one of the most famous names in all of California Cabernet.

Good fortune has certainly followed the Wagner Family, owners of the Estate, and 2012 was no different. In a year that they were to celebrate their 40th Anniversary mother nature served up what was by all accounts a stunning vintage in Napa (and really most all of California for that matter). They also came out with a cool new label - for what it is worth.

So today we are here to offer you the juice of their labor (get it?). They also produced a cool 1 Liter bottle that will be released towards the end of June and a 3L bottle that will be released at the end of July. All good things people!

Win 15% Off A Wine - For Life!

Match the Review to the Wine!
Saturday May 17th, 2014
11am - 8pm
ALL DAY LONG!

http://weeklywinejournal.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/wine_match_wheel_decoder1.jpg*

*I have no idea what this picture is about - but it said "Winematchwheel Decoder" - which we thought was funny

Many times I have read an expert wine review, tasted the wine, and then thought to myself "Am I tasting the same thing?" Other times maybe I have thought "This review is spot on!". So when we were batting around fun tasting ideas the other day we thought "What if we tried to match the expert review to the wine? Would it be easy?"

We are going to find out this weekend!

All day Saturday at all three stores we will have six wines on the machines to taste. You will be given a sheet listing the name of the wine and then six professional wine reviews. We want to see if you can match the review to the wine.

What happens if you win? I mean, we have to have a prize, right? So if you match the review to the wine, two things happen:

1) You get 15% off that wine on your next purchase
2) You get to write a review for that particular wine (if you want to...)

If you choose to write a review we will put it in a contest with all the other winners and choose our favorite (we like funny more than serious...just FYI). If your review gets chosen, it will become the new store shelf talker for that wine - and you'll get 15% off that wine...FOR LIFE. That's right. You're never paying retail for that product ever again.

So six of you are getting 15% off a bottle of wine (hopefully your favorite) - for life. Good things!!

Something new and different - and hopefully fun! We hope to see you this weekend!

2012 Mas Donis Has Landed!

2012 Capcanes "Mas Donis"

Release Price: $14.99
Winestore Price: $12.99
SAVE 13%

Save an additonal 10% in a mixed case!

We've been loving Mas Donis since the day we opened our doors nearly 8 years ago...and apparently world renowned wine critic Robert Parker is all in on the latest vintage of this inexpensive superstar.

Now, you know we think RP tends to jump on the hyperbole train from time to time, but whenever he says that a wine that costs only $12.99 - "It is difficult to find a better value than this incredibly rich effort...it is nearly impossible to believe that something this good could be priced at $12 a bottle" - you have to pay attention.

So here we go with the 2012 Mas Donis people...maybe better than ever? We'll let you decide.

Breaking Out the Big Boys This Weekend!

We're Tasting The Big Boys on Saturday!
Saturday May 10th, 2014
11am - 8pm
ALL DAY LONG!

2012 Eric Kent Small Town Pinot Noir
2008 La Peira
2011 Darioush Caravan

Every now and again we like to break out a slew of new arrivals that are some of the biggest and best wines that we can find. No particular varietal or region, just stuff we think you will find absolutely delicious. This Saturday we've got red blends from California, small production "small town" Pinot Noir, a Mollydooker flagship (at an ever so nice price), killer Grenache from one of Charlotte's own and a Syrah blend from France that may or may not rock your world (it did ours).

So maybe your mother / wife needs a nice bottle of wine for her special day. Maybe you all want to come together (heck, bring the kids - we can entertain them!) and taste around this lineup. No matter how you want to play it, we hope we can be part of your wine weekend.

As always, we THANK YOU for your business. We certainly appreciate you allowing us to serve you for almost eight years now. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you and we hope to see you this weekend!

From The Banshee Folks - Maybe the New "It" Wine...

Release Price: $24.99
Winestore Price: $19.99
Six Pack Price: $14.99
*
SAVE 40%

*Six pack price only available in store / over the phone orders

Banshee Mordecai dropped onto the scene a few years ago with a HUGE bang, and it appears that the people at Banshee have done it again with what may be the next "it" wine in the under $20 price category.

Waccamaw Proprietary Red is an equal parts blend of Cabernet, Barbera, Touriga, Zinfandel, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. What should a combination like this mean to you? Pure deliciousness is all we can say. This wine is fruit forward and powerful with virtually no harsh tannins at all - making it easy like Sunday morning to drink (we had a bottle last night and can confirm this information).

We'll be tasting it for FREE this Thursday in case you don't believe us, but all we can tell you is that it is "go time", people!

We hope you love it as much as we do!

2012 Leese Fitch Zinfandel
2012 Venge Scout's Honor
2012 Predator Zinfandel
2012 Rockus Bockus
2012 Dry Creek Heritage Zinfandel

If you want to see the greatest Zinfandel commercial ever made you can click HERE :)

Honestly, after watching that commercial, if you don't want to go drink a glass of Zinfandel, I don't even know what to say. I also feel like we should be hanging out with that guy...he seems like the James Bond of wine dudes...

I'm not sure whether or not I should be surprised, but over the last several years Zinfandel and Zinfandel based blends are on a tear. Heck, outside of Belle Glos Meiomi all of our best selling red wines are Zin based. You guys just love the stuff...and for good reason - it is delicious!!

So we're throwing a Zinfandel party this weekend. All super delicious and sexy. So maybe before you head out to the tournament, or after, or both. Perhaps you need a few bottles for your Kentucky Derby Party. Perhaps you just want to drink some kicking red wine this weekend because you are awesome. No matter how you wanna slice it, we hope to see you this weekend.

Happy tasting and we'll see you on Saturday!

Last Call!

2010 Clos Erasmus "Laurel"
Winestore Price: $49.99 per bottle
Today Only Price: $39.99* (net) per bottle
SAVE 20%

*Lowest Price in the USA
*Only 150 bottles available

We just got our last pop of 2010 Clos Erasmus "Laurel", and to close out what has been an insane month, we are going to offer it to you at the lowest price anywhere, today only.

Charlotte residents are lucky that Daphne Glorian Solomon, one of the worlds best winemakers, makes her home here in Charlotte. It gives us access to some seriously great wines at some seriously great prices (Go Queen City!) Her flagship wine, Clos Erasmus, is known around the globe as one of the benchmarks for Spanish wine (if not just incredible wine in general).

That said, she also makes a second label called "Laurel". Laurel, to those of us who love this wine, is essentially a baby Clos Erasmus. Why? It is a straight declassification of Clos Erasmus, meaning you're essentially getting the juice that did not "make the cut" for the big boy. That's called wine value people!
The 2010 Laurel we're offering you today should offer you the best possible explanation of what Daphne does with wine that is so incomparable and indescribable.

Ready, set, go...

2009 Marcucci Fava Brothers Zinfandel

Winery Price: $28.00 (Click HERE to see)
Winestore Price: $14.99 (net)
SAVE 46%

Only 26 cases available

What if I told you I could sell you 100% Single Vineyard Zinfandel from the Russian River Valley for only $14.99? You probably would not believe me...but 'tis true. I have 2009 Marcucci Farms Fava Brothers Vineyard Zinfandel available for you at $14.99 (net).

To be honest, I had never heard of Marcucci Farms or Fava Brothers Vineyard until last week....but I am loving them now. They've apparently been on the farming scene since the early 20th Century, which is all well and good, but how are the wines? We tasted this little gem and when we were notified of the "take it all" price for only 30 cases of wine we jumped all over it. We threw it on the tasting machine last weekend and 4 cases went right out the door (hence the reason there are only 26 cases left).

So if you are into big and bold red Zinfandel, this is for you. 15 bones for some ridiculous wine that is certain to pair well with burgers on the grill this weekend...just sayin'.

Many of you know this wine - it is easily one of the most popular wines we have ever sold, year in and year out. Our distributor for this wine, which is becoming a behemoth on the east coast, apparently got some more wine from Bodegas El Nido for being so powerful and paying their bills on time. 2012 Belle Provencale
2012 Lafage Cote Est
2010 Clos D'Agon Blanco

The Moillard Cotes du Rhone e-mail special we are running got us thinking. We haven't done a focused Rhone varietal tasting in a long time. I mean, we all love Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Marsanne Roussanne and every other grape variety that makes loving Rhone so right. We'll even be offering another insane deal in an e-mail tomorrow to start the weekend off right!

So this weekend we're breaking out Rhone Rangers from all over the world - of course we have the Chateauneuf du Pape, we've got a California powerhouse, we've got the Perrin family from Beaucastel, we've got a white Chateauneuf ringer from Spain...we've got everything for those of you who, like us, are obsessed with all things Rhone.

We'll also be covering all price ranges - from $9.99 to $159.99 - so if you're having family in this weekend you can allocate dollars accordingly based on how well they've been treating you :)

We hope you can swing by and taste with us this weekend. We'll hopefully have the doors open (anyone else sick of switching between the AC and the Heat?) and the vino will be flowing!

We'll see you this weekend!

Your New Daily Drinker For $9.99...

Can we speak for a minute about bottle shapes and sizes? Most wines come in a standard Burgundy or Bordeaux bottles (the skinny ones or the fat ones) and for good reason...wines in odd shaped bottles are a pain in the rear end. They cost more to ship, they cost more to label, they cost more to produce - they usually are nothing but trouble. That is why when I see a bottle of wine in some odd shaped glass, I know the person in charge is serious about their vino. It just takes a little more TLC.

So when someone dropped this wine off, and told us the price, we were intrigued. 10 bones and in a weird looking bottle? How could this be? After the first taste it was go time - we ordered it last Friday and without even sending out a newsletter, all three stores sold out of their initial drop. We knew we were onto something.

This wine, mostly Grenache with a chunk of Syrah and some Mourvedre, is a product of a well-known Burgundian negociant. It is soft and immediately drinkable; indeed, it drinks best at a certain velocity, if you catch our drift. There is nothing not to like. The bottle is awesome, the price is right and the juice is loose (sorry, but we had to...)

So let's celebrate spring break like it's 1996 with some much better libations.

2013 Butter Chardonnay Has Arrived!

2013 Butter Chardonnay

Regular Price: $18.99
Winestore Price: $14.99 (net)
SAVE 21%

It's back in action - and we're pretty sure you don't need us to tell you what kind of Chardonnay this is - the name says it all :)

Folks, you have been asking about when this is going to be back in stock like 30 times a day for the last eight weeks. The truck has finally arrived and the wine is ready to roll!

Last year, week after week we had customers ask if we could deliver them some Butter Chardonnay at a winestore style price. So naturally we hit the streets and secured oodles of Butter Chardonnay at the ever so friendly price of $14.99 (net) per bottle. It went bonkers, although the winery had a bit of a supply hiccup over the last 2 months.

So short and sweet today folks - we're gonna have to say this wine pairs pretty well with the current weather situation!

Chardonnay Taste Off with Rombauer, Kistler, Butter, Trefethen and more!

California Chardonnay Taste Off
Featuring Kistler, Rombauer, Butter, Trefethen and more!

Saturday April 12th, 2014
11am-8pm

http://www.winemonger.com/catalog/winemonger-talk/wp-content/chardonnay_sign.jpg

Featuring:
2012 Rombauer Chardonnay
2012 Kistler Sonoma Mountain Chardonnay
2012 Butter Chardonnay
2012 Trefethen Harmony Chardonnay (New Vintage!)
2012 Ventana Chardonnay
2012 Binigrau Nounat
2012 Novellum Chardonnay
2012 Wente "Morning Fog" Chardonnay

With the deal we are running on the Nounat, along with the return of Butter tomorrow (yes, you read that correctly), and the fact that it is going to be 80 degrees on Saturday, we decided it was time to break out the Chardonnay. Chardonnay is the most popular variety among U.S. wine drinkers. That, rather obvious, fact is all too often ignored by wine geeks who love to smirk about their latest “ABC” infatuation. “Anything but Chardonnay” may describe the interest level of many jaded wine aficionados, but it doesn’t speak to most wine drinkers. For most, Chardonnay is plenty tasty, and good values abound. Of all those Chardonnay lovers out there, it is the rich and buttery Chardonnay - the character that defines California - that gets people really excited.

Sooo....we'll line all the wines up on the machine this Saturday and let the grading begin. Each taster will be able to rate the wines 1-8 (1 being their favorite) and we will release the results next week (with perhaps a deal on the winning Chardonnay)

If you are like us and love a great Cali Chard, then be sure to stop in on Saturday!

See you Saturday and Happy Tasting!

58% Off This Killer Chardonnay!

2012 Binigrau Nounat

Release Price: $36.00 (Click HERE to see)
Winestore SALE Price: $14.99 (net)
SAVE 58%

So way back when we offered this super tasty white wine to you and you guys fell in love. We kept going back to the well for more and after a bit we thought, "Geez, they seem to have a ton of this stuff...."

After a little digging we realized people are not walking into their local restaurant and ordering / asking for Chardonnay from Mallorca (Yes, Mallorca - that small little Mediterranean island best known as a European holiday destination may be producing the best Chardonnay you have never heard of...). You guys have the benefit of tasting this little beauty on the machine to see what all the fuss is about, giving you the inside track.

So cue the negotiating process where we could buy all they had at some ridiculous bargain. After some tough negotiating and a little bit of name calling, a deal was struck and voila...ridiculous wine at an even more ridiculous price.

Best part is the Nounat is not even 100% Chardonnay. It is an equal parts blend of Prensal Blanc and Chardonnay - because if you're gonna produce some rocking white wine from the ancient island of Mallorca, you need to at least throw in one indigenous varietal for good measure.

We'll have the wine on the machine to taste at all three stores - but don't dawdle, we were only able to nab 60 cases for all three stores.

2013 Pesquie Rosé
2013 Domaine de la Janasse VDP Rosé

LOWEST PRICES IN THE USA!

The largest breakout wine of 2013 was the 2012 Lafage Miraflors Rosé. The entire State of NC went absolutely bonkers for this wine, and for good reason - the wine in insanely good.

Last year we laid it down on the line with this wine. We warned you that if you loved dry rosé during the warmer months, and you do not buy a case of this stuff to sip on all summer long, you might be out of your mind. Even better, this year we brought in some magnums...because bigger in this case is necessarily better. The 2013 Lafage Miraflors Rosé, much like the 2012, is a game changer in our opinion. Dry rosé is the flavor of the moment, and southern France is the style’s birthplace and homeland. A refreshing blend of Mourvedre and Grenache Gris, this lovely lady is more complex than most any dry rosé you’ve ever had....

We have it to taste at all three stores but don't dawdle...it won't last long.

With the recent arrivals of two top blends, we decided there was not a better time than now to break out the battle of the blends. There is no wine segment here at winestore. that is getting more love from you, the customers, more than red blends. It could be Petite Sirah and Cabernet, Grenache and Syrah, or a Banshee like blend of nine different grape varieties - you guys are loving them all. There is a chance, yes albeit a small one, that you simply have not found a blend that has worked for you. Well, this weekend we are bringing you the best of the best. If there were ever a chance to find your new house wine, this may be it!

We'll have the new vintage of Venge Scout's Honor to try, some old favorites like Runquist 1448 and some new arrivals like Ca' Momi. 2012 Scout's Honor Has Arrived!

2012 Venge Scout's Honor

Winery Price: $38.00
Our Price: Not $38.00

We're expecting today to be insane.

Why do you ask? Scout's Honor has returned.

There are a few wines that we basically get hounded about...and this is one of them. I'm not talking like 3 customers a week come in and casually ask if this wine is back in stock. I'm talking people calling every Monday for the last 12 weeks asking if it has landed yet. To those people - your ship has come in.

Scout's Honor, a full throttle Zinfandel blend from Napa Valley, has got to be putting a dent in the sales of wine powerhouse "The Prisoner". Heck, we don't even have people really ask about Prisoner any more since this train started rollin'. It's taking over like Kudzu on I-85.

What is our price you ask? This is an in store special only. Sorry, but in an online world this is one wine that has no online sales. Why is this? Let's just chalk it up to the wine business. It's weird like that - we don't like it and neither should you - but until we build up our multi million dollar lobbying operation we need to let sleeping dogs lie.

So get on it people - it's go time!

First Rosé Of The Season Has Arrived!

2013 Bieler Pere et Fils Rose

Winestore Price: $10.99

We know....it's still slightly chilly outside. That can't stop us from loving on some dry rosé though. We opened up our first bottle of the 2013s last Sunday and we don't plan on looking back.

First one to arrive - 2013 Bieler Pere et Fils Provencale rosé - at the super yummy price of only $10.99. This was one of the breakout hits from last year, so much so that we completely ran out of this product right after July 4th.

Well, we've planned better this year, and the wine is as tasty as it has ever been. So, if you love you some dry rosé as much as we do, swing on by and grab some this weekend. We'll have it on the machine at all three stores available to taste!

Blind Taste Belle Glos vs. $15 Rivals!

Blind Taste Belle Glos Las Alturas!
Saturday March 15th, 2014
11am - 8pm

That's right people, the blind tasting train has come back into the station and it's time for our 3rd Annual Belle Glos Blind Tasting! Given the enormous popularity of the Belle Glos lineup (I know you guys know what we're talking about, we see how much you buy) we need to put them to the ultimate test once a year in a no holds barred blind tasting.  So this Saturday we will be tasting the Belle Glos blind against 7 other rivals all on the tasting machine.
Like we have said many times before, if you don't know the price, can't see the label, and can't hear someone barking in your ear about the wine's "score," then all that is left is the juice and your taste buds. It's a scary proposition for any winemaker. That's why you have marketing departments that design catchy labels, create campaigns to build a wine's image, and spend all of their time and energy essentially trying to convince consumers that a wine is great. The problem is that you can't out "market" a blind tasting.
Which is why we're playing "Find the Belle Glos" this Saturday. It's simple really. Eight wines will all be tasted blind on the tasting machine. One of them will be 2012 Belle Glos Las Alturas Pinot Noir and the others will be an assortment of Pinot etc. at every price point from a number of different regions. All you have to do is taste and pick your favorite. Yes, that's right, your favorite. If that's the Belle Glos, then great, if not, well that's OK too. You may be surprised as to what your favorites actually are.
Get ready to taste some amazing Pinot Noir!

Back up the truck!

2010 Castano Hecula

Release Price: $11.99
Winestore Price: $9.99
5 Day SALE Price: $6.99 (net)
SAVE 42%

Fellow wine drinkers,

After the success of the Wente Chardonnay deal last week, we decided it was time to roll out the equally as popular Hecula for $6.99 per bottle deal. I mean, we are giddy over here with the value play that this wine represents at $10, at $6.99 we're not even sure what to say.

In those previous Hecula deal offerings we have told you that the wine press had been gushing over Hecula for some 10 years now, stating:

"Is the average buyer at this price point ready for this? An amazing value"

"Perhaps the most rewarding under $15 wine I have had in a long time"

"As long as I have been drinking wine this has over-delivered in the value category"

So here we go - five days only. We'll end the sale this Sunday, March 16th at 6pm. Miss out if you feel like it - your friends will be crushing this stuff at their St. Patty's Day Party :)

It's go time!

2012 Lafage Bastide Miraflors

2012 Lafage Bastide Miraflors
Winestore Price: $12.99 per bottle

Last year the breakout wine of the year may have been the 2011 Lafage Bastide Miraflors (the rose of the same name may have been a close second). You may remember that this was a new project between Charlotte based wine importer Eric Solomon and winemaking wizard Jean Marc Lafage. It was getting some serious hype and then wine critic Robert Parker chimed in the conversation with:

"The fact that wines such as this can be purchased is unbelievable. Largely an artisinal wine, it is brilliantly pure with a stunning nose of spring flowers, blackberries, cassis and earth. It is almost incomprehensible that something of this quality, complexity and richness can be purchased for $15 to $50, much less $10 to $12. The 3,000 cases should be gobbled up as quickly as they hit retailers' shelves. I am honored to share my excitement about this amazing wine with readers.
"
- Robert Parker

David Schildknecht, also of The Wine Advocate, piled on with:

"The remarkable world Lafage seems to inhabit (or should I say “create”?), where seemingly impossible ends are reconciled and you get to have your cake and eat it too! A crunch of berry seeds invigorates, even as polish and richness caress. And speaking of “amazing,” that is too weak a word for the utterly improbable, almost absurd value offered by this cuvee."

All that was written about the 2011 vintage of this wine. We say this because 2011 was, by all accounts, a not so great vintage in southern France. So here today we offer you the 2012. A blockbuster vintage for sure, and after tasting it we think this wine will once again rock your world for only $12. We are proud to be the first in the US to offer you this beauty, so get while the gettin' is good. Last year this stuff literally flew off the shelves!

Ignore the hype if you want...all we know is we're buying cases for ourselves, and we think you should too!

Epic Eric Solomon Tasting this Weekend!

Eric Solomon Selections Tasting!
Saturday March 8th, 2014
11am - 8pm

*

FEATURING:
2012 Lafage Miraflors Rouge (New Vintage!)
2010 Mas Doix Salanques
2010 AALTO PS
2012 Solanera
2012 Marcoux Cotes du Rhone
2009 Mas Doix Vieilles Vignes
2012 Binigrau Nounat
2012 Novellum Chardonnay
2011 Tessallae GSM

2010 Clos D'Agon Blanco
2012 Espelt Garnacha

and more!

Time to roll out some new vintages of some wines from our favorite portfolio - Eric Solomon Selections. Included in this tasting on the machine is the arrival of the new vintage of 2012 Bastide Miraflors, the breakout hit wine of 2013 (more on that tomorrow). His wine portfolio from Spain and France is scary good, especially if you are an importer trying to compete with him. His amazing stable of wines includes Marcoux, Benjamin Romeo, Clos Erasmus, La Peira, Janasse, Herencia Altes, Mas Doix, Lafage, Closa Batllet, Chateau Tirecul, AALTO) ...and the list goes on and on. These properties are all the rage at the moment among the critics, and for good reason. They make utterly lush and delicious wines, and yet they are not wines that have sold their souls (ya know, with high alcohol, over-extraction, too much oak and the like) in order to get blessedly high scores from he-who-must-not-be-named. These wines are rich and impressive, but they not only retain their souls, they HAVE soul. Character. Personality. Whatever.

Solomon's book is an embarrassment of riches. We are delighted that he lives in Charlotte and that we have the opportunity to offer so many of his fabulous wines. And we are even more excited to show you the breadth and depth of his portfolio this weekend. The wines will be up on the machine all day Saturday (and a few are already up!). We'll have some special deals running on most of these wines, so we hope to see you this Saturday!

Cheers!

Soooo...the winner of the 2014 Silver Oak Blind Tasting, 2011 Katherine Goldschmidt has finally arrived (it got held up a bit because of the weather). So if you have pre-ordered the wine we are probably calling you right now! For those of you that did not get in on the feeding frenzy, we were able to add an extra pallet of wine to our order so we have another 56 cases to go around.

That brings us to our second arrival of the day - another 56 cases of 2011 Hilary Goldschmidt Cabernet (remember, the Opus One wine?). Now, we were told the last drop we had the first week of January was it, it was all gone. Yet we still have people come in every week looking for more. Well, the winery called and said they could add 56 more cases to this order. Even though our last drop was a "thank you for you business", what was this one? Where did it come from? Did another distributor not take theirs? Well, my grandmother taught me to never look a gift horse in the mouth, or as I later heard the literal translation is "A given horse's teeth are not inspected." Yeah. So we just took the wine. Is this all of this vintage. Supposedly so...and we're not going to temp fate again. So into the wine closet goes a case.

If you haven't been riding the Goldschmidt train then you are missing out. Good news is we will also be tasting these wines for free this weekend (more on that tomorrow). For now, the chum is in the water and the sharks are circling. Let the feeding frenzy begin.

Ridiculous California Value For $9.99

2012 Ca' Momi Rosso di Napa

Winery Price: $18.00 (Click HERE to see)
Winestore Price: $9.99
SAVE 44%

SAVE AN ADDITIONAL 10% IN A MIXED CASE!

So, one of our wine reps pops in a few weeks ago, and is all "This wine is an amazing value!!" If we had  a penny for each time we heard that, we'd have exactly 1.367 million pennies.(Yes, we are keeping count) And it's from a winery called Ca' Momi...never heard of it.

Low and behold, even coming in with zero expectations, this little gem really blew us away. Maybe it is that Cabernet and Zin blends really appeal to us (this one also has some Merlot and Petite Sirah). Our best selling wine is a blend of, you guessed it, Cabernet and Zin. Maybe it is just that the wine is delicious and sub $10, which is right in our kill zone. Maybe we have no idea what we are talking about- you'll have to decide that for yourself!

All that said, we present you with this field blend from the scrumptious 2012 vintage, for less than $10. We're pretty sure we saw Lord Grantham popping the cork on this recently on Downton Abbey... so they have that going for them (before you call us to confirm, this was a joke).

So swing on by to taste- yes we will have it on the machines at all three stores! We hope you love it as much as we do!

Blind taste wines from the following countries!
FRANCE
UNITED STATES
SPAIN
AUSTRALIA

So it is the Olympics and all, and they only happen every four years, so we have to do something, right? It would be wrong to just let it pass. So we decided to put on our own version of the Wine Winter Olympics. NBC may or may not be covering the event - we're still in negotiations for the TV rights. You know how these things go....

So here is how it works. We'll have eight wines blind on the tasting machines. Two wines from each country. They will be in no particular order. You go through and taste all eight. At the end of your tasting you vote for your favorite wine. At the end of the day we will add up all the votes and next week present you with a Gold, Silver and Bronze medal winner. We'll also, as we are known to do, probably put together some amazing deals on the winners. You know, like an endorsement deal for them.

Added bonus to the Wine Olympics...our accommodations may be nicer than Sochi and you don't have to fly all the way to mother Russia. So swing on by this weekend, taste some great wine, perhaps have a little fun, and hang out with us. There may be a chance we will have a speed skating rink built inside the store for fun, but we're not sure our lawyers will let us do it...something about liability or something.

See you this Saturday!
