We're Open And We Have A Deal For You!

2012 Marcoux Cotes du Rhone
http://www.irtc.org/ftp/pub/stills/2006-02-28/snowman.jpg

We are open - you may need wine!
11am - 6pm

2012 Marcoux Cotes du Rhone
Winestore Price: $19.99
Only 42 cases available

Lowest Price in the USA

Save an additional 10% in a mixed case!

We have been waiting a long time for this wine to arrive - and it finally pulled up this morning. The 2012 Marcoux Cotes du Rhone is a game changer. Heck, even wine critic extraordinaire Robert Parker remarked that the 2012 Marcoux was "A sleeper of the vintage...that could easily pass for a Chateauneuf du Pape."

You may remember that the 2010 Marcoux Cotes du Rhone was our wine of the year in 2012 - it was a $20 dynamo - and I am still hoarding 8 bottles in my wine fridge like they are gold bars. We skipped the 2011 vintage (mostly because it was a poor vintage in the Rhone so why not wait for the best) and the wait for the 2012 was well worth it. For all of you Cotes du Rhone, Chateauneuf du Pape etc. lovers, this 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre blend is a 6-12 bottle purchase for sure. It also happens to pair well with fireplaces, snow, the Superbowl and wet roads - so we are in luck!

We only have 42 cases to share across the 3 stores so get while the gettin' is good. 'Cause you know we are taking a few cases for ourselves :)

And The Silver Oak Blind Tasting Winner Is...

2011 Katherine Goldschmidt Cabernet

Winery Price: $21.99
Winestore Price: $16.95 (net)
SAVE 23%

Lowest Price in the USA!

Second place goes to Darioush Carvan - see below!

Obviously you guys remember the Hilary Goldschmidt Cabernet from the Holidays. You know, the Oakville Cabernet made from grapes that used to go into Opus One? So we figured heck, if the Oakville Cabernet is that great, the Alexander Valley Cabernet (named after the founders second daughter, Katherine) has to be tasty - and it's less expensive! So we tasted it...and it is awesome. Then you, our wonderful customers, tasted it in the Silver Oak blind tasting and it got 25% of all the votes! One of our highest totals ever.

Only problem - right now there isn't much in the stores, but there will be 112 cases arriving on February 19th. Will it sell out prior to it even getting here? Maybe- anything is possible. That said, if you loved the Hilary Goldschmidt Cabernet you are going to really dig this stuff.

A solid second place showing is going to one of our favorites year in and year out - Darioush Caravan.  This 100% Cabernet from Napa Valley may not be priced at a daily wine kinda price, but it is in reach for a special occassion bottle - and it delivers every.single.time.

Amazing Cabernet for $7.99?

2011 Excelsior Cabernet

Release Price: $9.99
Winestore Price: $7.99
SAVE 20%

SAVE AN ADDITIONAL 10% IN A MIXED CASE!

We spend the better part of our days seeking out wine values. What seemingly would be a very easy job certainly has some hurdles. First, you have the sea of not so great sub $10 vino to sift through. That takes some time...and patience. Then you have the all important price. More often than not, the highly regulated nature of the alcohol business has the distributor holding all the cards - and let's just say they are not exactly looking out for your pocketbook. That said, every now and then you are able to finagle that great price on a diamond in the rough - and then the magic begins.

That is where we find 2011 Excelsior Cabernet - an excellent cab no doubt, but not from California. No, this little gem comes from the great country of South Africa and that may be why we are getting it at this lovely price. It drinks great - we can definitely say it pairs well with a Breaking Bad binge watching marathon on Netflix.

So, if you're looking for the next great daily drinker, we think this may be in the running. The price is right, the taste is right, the package is right (well, it's really just ok but we can live with it). So, now you just need to do the right thing and get yourself a few bottles!

Featuring 2009 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet

All that talk yesterday about the Meyer Family and Silver Oak was simply a pre-game for our event this weekend....because it's that time again. It's time for our 7th Annual Silver Oak Blind Tasting. This is certainly one of our most popular tastings every year, and we're pretty sure our 7th will be the best yet!  Just last year, the 2010 Gun Bun Mountain Cuvee (retail price $14.99) came in 1st place in this tasting - besting not only 2008 Silver Oak Alexander Valley, but also 6 other wines with an average retail price of $31. It almost seems unfair, I mean a Tesla Model S is supposed to go faster than a Yugo, and a $60 wine is supposed to taste better than a $12 one. Right? Well, maybe not. A wine's success isn't measured in MpH, it's measured in the taste that is transferred from the glass to your mouth. If you don't know the price, can't see the label, and can't hear someone barking in your ear about the wine's "score," then all that is left is the juice and your taste buds. It's a scary proposition for any winemaker. That's why you have marketing departments that design catchy labels, create campaigns to build a wine's image, and spend all of their time and energy essentially trying to convince consumers that a wine is great. The problem is that you can't out "market" a blind tasting.

Which is why we're playing "Find the Silver Oak" this Saturday. It's simple really. The wines will all be tasted blind on our tasting machines. One of them will be 2009 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet and the others will be an assortment of wines at every price point, from a number of different regions. All you have to do is taste and pick your favorite. Yes, that's right, your favorite. If that's the Silver Oak, then great, if not, well that's OK too. You may be surprised as to what your favorites actually are.

We hope to see you Saturday - t
his is always a fun event!

New Release From The First Family Of Silver Oak!

2011 Meyer Family "Spitfire" Cabernet

Winestore Price: $44.99 (net)

Silver Oak Bonny's Vineyard Cabernet was, as you probably know from previous newsletters,  the most sought-after wine in the Silver Oak stable. Bonny Meyer's late husband Justin Meyer had named the vineyard for her, and it was the jewel in the crown that Justin Meyer crafted at Silver Oak. In 1991, he stopped making a single vineyard wine, insisting that Silver Oak's worldwide popularity made it too troublesome to continue to make a 400 case production wine, with every customer assuming that they could buy access to that limited production wine.

Interestingly enough, the vineyard right next door to Bonny's is called Spitfire, and the Meyer Family had their eye on it for more than 20 years. When the opportunity to finally purchase the vineyard arose around 2007 they jumped at the chance and have been crafting crazy good Oakville Cabernet from this site ever since. So yes - think special, very, very special.

So, there is never much to go around - a measly ten cases - we know that you guys love great California Cabernet. While not an everyday drinker, for less than $45 this is some stellar juice!!

FREE Tasting this Saturday!

FREE Darioush Tasting!
Saturday, January 18th, 2014
2pm - 4pm (or longer if we have the wine!)

http://napavalleyvineyards.org/media/cache/darioush_tastingroom_display.jpg

Featuring:
2010 Darioush Estate Cabernet
2012 Darioush Chardonnay
2011 Darioush Caravan Cabernet
2010 Darioush Capataz Malbec

Darioush, aesthetically, is really unlike any other winery in Napa Valley. Hopefully the picture above gives you a rough idea of what we are talking about...it is pretty over the top.

Good news though! While the architecture may be over the top, the wines created at this estate are right on point. The Caravan Cabernet at $44.99 is actually a pretty strong Napa Valley value (can you call a $45 wine a value?) and the Estate Cabernet drinks like an $80 red wine should...large and in charge. The Chardonnay we will be pouring puts many rivals to shame and their Argentinian Malbec, a new project for this Estate, may be our favorite red coming out of that country right now.

So it's a holiday weekend, and we thought "Hey, why not open up some nice wine for people to drink on Saturday". So, being impulsive like we are, we're gonna go ahead and open $200 of wine for you to try on Saturday absolutely free. No pay us $10 and we'll credit you back if you buy some wine nonsense. You're too good to us for us to try that nonsense on you. Just plain ole free wine.

We hope you can swing by on Saturday - we'd love to see you. As always, thank you for your business - we appreciate it!!

Our Wine Of The Year Has A Sister...

2011 Lafage Tessellae Carignan

Release Price: $14.99
Winestore Price: $12.99
SALE Price: $10.99 net
SAVE 27%

LOWEST PRICE IN THE US!

SALE runs Wednesday January 15th - Friday January 17th, 2014

You guys bought our wine of the year, the 2011 Lafage Tessellae GSM at a record clip. What you may or may not have known was that one of our other best selling wines of 2013 was also a Lafage Tessellae, but this time it was 100% Carignan (a full bodied, rich grape). Only problem with the Tessellae Carignan was keeping it in stock - we could never quite master how much to order, so this time we partnered with our supplier to try and make sure we have this beauty all year long, and to kick it off we are selling this gem for a song.

If you haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet, you are missing out fo sho. Wine writers from all over the world have been noting the following
:

- "improbable price-quality rapport"
- "taken on an aura of unreality when one sees the price!"
- "mind-boggling value"

Rich, complex and smooth, this wine is bound to impress you for only 10 bones. If you don't believe us, we'll have it on the machine for you to taste!

As always, THANK YOU for your business!

Runquist Mega Tasting This Saturday!

Jeff Runquist Mega Tasting!
Saturday January 4th, 2014
11am - 8pm

http://www.winecountrygetaways.com/winetraveler/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/vintage1.jpg

Featuring:
2011 Jeff Runquist Petite Sirah                   ($29.99 net)
2011 Jeff Runquist Amador Barbera           ($24.99 net)
2011 Jeff Runquist Petit Verdot               ($24.99 net)

2011 Jeff Runquist Colina Cabernet       ($24.99 net)
2011 Jeff Runquist 1448 Red Blend           ($17.99 net)

It's a new year, and time for some NEW vintages of your favorite Jeff Runquist wines! There was a time here in Charlotte where Runquist Petite Sirah was the hottest thing since sliced bread. Now, nearly seven years later, his wines are still as hot as ever. His wines are the ultimate crowd pleasers - the type of wines you can pour for your friends and people will be talking about them for days. That is why we are putting together a tasting of almost all of his wines. Love Petite Sirah? Try to find one better than Runquist....Love Petit Verdot? Probably not, but it doesn't matter because nobody does it better in California...Love Zinfandel? This blows Klinker Brick out of the water. Barbera? Don't even get us started...

These are big wines, perfect for this cold weather (or warm - we're all over the place here in Charlotte!!) and best of all is that they are fun wines. Drinking wine is fun and when you put some Jeff Runquist in the glass the fun factor goes up by several basis points. Oh - and did we mention you can't buy these wines for less anywhere in NC!

As an added bonus, we'll be adding a 10% bonus to your Enoround purchases this Saturday. For example, put $10 on your tasting card for the Runquist lineup and we'll throw you an extra dollar just for being your awesome self.

As always, THANK YOU for your business and we hope to see you this weekend!
