Either way, there are no other wines that cause the same type of feeding frenzy as Clio and El Nido. When I think back to all the wonderful bottles I have had over the last several years, it may surprise you to find out that a bottle of 1987 Dry Creek Cabernet that was given to me by a friend is one of the best California Cabernets I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. It probably should not be that way...I mean, this bottle was probably bought for all of $8.00 in 1989 and was never meant to last 20 years. Maybe it was the company I was with, maybe it was the wonderful food, maybe I am crazy - but the wine was just singing that night.

I'm not sure what that story has to do with this killer deal on the 2009 Dry Creek Cabernet, 'cause there is no way we are going to let this tasty treat last 20 years. This wine has a shelf life at my house of like 40 minutes after it comes through the door!

Dry Creek Vineyards may not be on your radar screen right now, but if you are a Cabernet lover like I am, this wine is worth a go. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!!

Does Big Box mean Big Savings?


Every now and again, we feel it's appropriate to tackle the issue of wine prices. Not in the educational sense like Doug does on occasion, but rather straight up store vs. store (or bottle vs bottle). Since we opened in 2006, we've been asked on numerous occasions how our prices stack up against the "big box" retailers. Most often the store in question is Total Wine. It's a fair question as most of us just assume that a bigger store means lower prices. Large retailers are supposed to wield endless amounts of buying power in order get lower prices and squash independent retailers right?? Well, not exactly. We thought we would put this theory to the test by purchasing a case from Total Wine and comparing it to the exact same case from winestore. We selected several wines for every day drinking (e.g. Mas Donis and Predator Zinfandel) and a few nicer wines for a special occasion (e.g. Rombauer Chardonnay and Kunde Cabernet). The results were as follows:

This wine arrived for the first time a few years ago, and it caused quite a splash when it placed first in a blind tasting of 2008 Caymus Special Select...you read that correctly...first place. Borsao Berola was Rockus Bockus before Rockus Bockus was the king slayer, taking down Silver Oak in a blind tasting back in January (did that make sense? :)

All that said, we have never been able to offer this wine for $9.99. It is a scary good wine at that price.
