Blind taste the new vintage of Caymus vs. $25 Rivals!

Blind Taste 2009 Caymus Cabernet
Saturday July 30th, 2011
11am - 8pm
ALL DAY LONG!

Caymus Napa Cabernet Sauvignonhttp://hpr1.com/images/entry_gallery/6879/brown-paper-bag-blind-tasting__large.jpg

It's time again for one of our favorite events - the 4th Annual Caymus Cabernet Blind Tasting. Every couple of months we put a heavyweight wine up against some lower priced competitors and the feedback from you, our valued customers, is that you absolutely love the opportunity to taste blind to find great values. There is a certain satisfaction being able to find out that you can get wine that you really love for really low prices - and that you don't always need to buy the highly touted name brands to get some tasty juice. So Saturday you will be able to taste a California stalwart, from an amazing vintage - the newly released 2009 Caymus Cabernet. Caymus has long been one of the most famous Cabernets coming out of California and now its time to put it to the test. We'll have some $25 rivals on the machine - but we'll also throw some wild cards into the mix to make it really interesting!

If you don't know the price, can't see the label, and can't hear someone barking in your ear about the wine's "score," then all that is left is the juice and your taste buds. It's a scary proposition for any winemaker. That's why you have marketing departments that design catchy labels, create campaigns to build a wine's image, and spend all of their time and energy essentially trying to convince consumers that a wine is great. The problem is that you can't out "market" a blind tasting.

Which is why we're playing "Find the Caymus" this Saturday. It's simple really. The wines will all be tasted blind. One of them will be 2009 Caymus Cabernet and the others will be an assortment of wines at every price point from a number of different regions. All you have to do is taste and pick your favorite. Yes, that's right, your favorite. If that's the Caymus, then great, if not, well that's OK too. You may be surprised as to what your favorites actually are...

We'll release the winners next week - and as usual, we expect some fireworks!

We hope to see you Saturday and as always, we appreciate your business!

Real Housewives of NY in a bottle

Ramona Singer Pinot Grigio
http://www.homorazzi.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/ramona-singer-pinot-grigio.jpg

2010 Ramona Singer Pinot Grigio
Price: $12.99 (net) per bottle

You may or may not be familiar with the hit BravoTV show The Real Housewives of NY - it is basically a bunch of crazy women who yell at each other for one hour every week (while at the same time showing off how glamorous their lives are) and then get together at the end of the season in a "reunion" to call each other crazy. Needless to say, it is great TV. The question here is do the "real housewives" make wine as well as they argue - and in the case of Ramona Singer Pinot Grigio, the stuff is actually pretty darn tasty for only $12.99.

Our wives would divorce us if we did not bring this wine in for them to try - and we usually do what the boss says (you guys know how it is!). They want to get together with all their girlfriends, drink this wine, and watch all these crazy ladies go at it on television. Sounds like a good time to us...

We're pretty sure this wine was specially designed with our "Girls Night Out" section in mind.

Wine arrives tomorrow!

Saturday July 23rd, 2011
11am - 8pm

Featuring:
2009 Rombauer Chardonnay
2007 Rombauer Cabernet
2009 Rombauer Zinfandel
2006 Rombauer "Diamond Reserve" Cabernet
vs.
2008 Trefethen "Double T" Chardonnay
2009 Trefethen Chardonnay
2008 Trefethen "Double T" Red
2007 Trefethen Cabernet

Tastings like this get us crazy excited. We get to put some of California's most popular names up on the tasting machine and make them go head to head to find out where the best taste and best values are found. Rombauer and Trefethen make some of the most well known wines in California - I mean, even if you are not that into wine you've probably heard of Rombauer Chardonnay. So this weekend we're getting them together in a California Tasting Throwdown that is sure to please.

There is a little something for everyone here - Chardonnay, Cabernet, and even Zinfandel! We'll also be offering some ridiculous prices...did somebody say lowest price in the USA on some of these babies? You know it!

So come on in this weekend, get out of the heat (I mean, seriously, it's getting a little out of control), and drink some great California tasty treats. We hope to see you soon, and as always, we appreciate your business!

Whether in a blind setting or when I know what I'm drinking, I keep finding myself preferring Wente over other, bigger names. They just make great wine. That being said, one should not confuse Wente with some boutique wine outfit - this is a pretty large operation. Heck, they even have a championship golf course at the winery...so if you're getting a hint of Titleist Pro VI in your Cabernet, I lost that ball on #16 a few years back. Large winery or small, we try to find the absolute best juice for the money, and these two wines represent just that; extremely high quality wine for a nominal everyday drinking price.

That is why we decided to put them together in a combo pack for you - at a ridiculously low price. So maybe you need some wine for an upcoming wedding, maybe you need some wine because you like really tasty wine, or maybe you just want a good drinker for burgers on a Wednesday night with your honey. Any way you slice it, this sixer might just be for you.

If the Price is Right get 15% Off!

Play the Price is Right
Saturday July 9th, 2011
11am- 8pm

http://www.scandigital.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/price-is-right.jpghttp://www.drvino.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/blind_wine_tasting.jpg

It's time for our 2nd Annual Price is Right Tasting, which is a little bit of a twist on our traditional blind tastings. Most people say they can tell if a wine is more expensive simply based on the taste. Well, this weekend you're going to get to test that theory with a little game of The Price is Right! (Unfortunately we could not fit a Plinko board into the store, so we're simply going to have to settle with using the tasting machines).

Eight red wines and four white wines will all be covered up blind, and each will be the same price to taste $0.75. You will then be given a sheet with 12 different prices on it to use as your guide. If you can match the correct price to the correct wine you will get 15% off each wine guessed correctly! Your 15% discount will apply to as much as you would like to buy of that particular wine.

Given how great last years tasting was, we know this will be a ton of fun (and we'll be playing Beach Music all day just because we love it!). We've done plenty of blind tastings where we thought that $50 Cab was a $12 daily drinker...so we know how fun it is to guess completely wrong. If, however, you guess correct - your pocketbook is going to be thanking you!

Happy Tasting and we'll see you on Saturday!
