Out of the Box FREE Tasting!!

FREE Tasting this Saturday!
Saturday April 30th, 2011
2pm-4pm
Vina Borgia Available for taste from 2pm-8pm

Featuring:
2009 Vina Borgia 3L Box
2010 Wrongo Dongo
2010 Pichot Coteau de la Biche Vouvray
2010 Overstone Sauvignon Blanc

You're probably thinking this is some sort of tasting where we are going to challenge you to think outside "the box". Actually we're going to ask you to think inside "the box" this coming Saturday.

We have never sold wine out of a box (for good reason)...until now. Maybe we were scared of box wine - thoughts of fraternity parties featuring Franzia blush boxed wine may have left a poor taste in our mouth. All that changed for us yesterday, when we tasted the 2009 Vina Borgia out of a 3 Liter Box. The package blew us away, and the wine (for the equivalent of $1 per glass) was outstanding. The total package price was the equivalent to $4.99 per bottle - the whole thing was outstanding!! So this weekend, in addition to a few other new arrivals, we will be tasting the new 3 Liter box of Vina Borgia for you from 2pm until 8pm on Saturday.

Not excited about this tasting? That's ok. That being said this could be your wine "eye opener" of the year - it could totally change your wine true north! We think it's just going to be a lot of fun...and you can leave with your first box wine purchase since college, and feel great about it :)

We may even break out the 80's music all day on Saturday...no promises!

Those are descriptors we expect to read about wines at twice this price. Many of you know that we spend a huge amount of time seeking out the best possible wines at the best possible prices. A lot happening this weekend!

Jeff Runquist Tasting Featuring 1448!

Plus a NEW wine from Orin Swift!

Saturday April 23rd, 2011
11am - 8pm

http://store.liquorama.net/productimages/runquist.jpghttp://gallery.mailchimp.com/c0a9efc525bfba905d31b49b7/images/Runquist_1448.jpg

Featuring:
2009 Jeff Runquist "1448" Red Blend
2008 Jeff Runquist Petite Sirah
2009 Jeff Runquist Amador Barbera
2008 Jeff Runquist Sangiovese
2008 Jeff Runquist Massoni Ranch Zinfandel
2008 Jeff Runquist Colina Cabernet
2008 Jeff Runquist Syrah

So, as you may or may not have heard, Runquist 1448 is back in stock. This wine may be THE most popular wine under $20 that we carry. That being said, last year there was a feeding frenzy on this wine and we only had 20+ cases. This year we have north of 50 cases, so hopefully there will be enough to go around!!

Jeff Runquist makes great wine. His wines are the ultimate crowd pleasers - the type of wines you can pour for your friends and people will be talking about them for days. That is why we are putting together a tasting of almost all of his wines, including the entry level 1448. Love a wine that over-delivers for the price? 1448 is your new "go to"....Love Petite Sirah? Try to find one better than Runquist....Love Sangiovese? Nobody does it better in California...Love Zinfandel? This may even be better than Klinker Brick :)

So come on in this weekend and let's taste some great juice!

As always, THANK YOU for your business and we hope to see you this weekend!

and now - a NEW Orin Swift Wine!

2009 Orin Swift Palermo

Winestore Price: $29.99 (net)

Only 6 cases available

If there is any winery that is more popular than Runquist, it is probably Orin Swift. The Prisoner, Saldo, Papillon and Machete are all HUGE sellers for us. Now comes a new wine, Palermo. Basically Orin Swift buys more than they need to create the $55 Papillon wine, and the leftover juice they have decided to bottle as "Palermo". Should we have any left come Saturday we will be sure to put it on the tasting machine, but if history serves as any indicator, this stuff is going to go quick!

If you happen to remember, we tasted a "Mystery Wine" two weeks ago that was 57% off the winery price. We also noted that part of "the deal" was that we are not allowed to publicly state what wine we are offering. Well, our first drop of 42 cases sold out the day of the tasting, and our last drop of 42 cases arrived this morning. Hopefully it will last a little longer than 24 hours...but not too much longer :)

Sooo....if you are looking for some serious juice at a not so serious price, this is your honey pot.

To remind you, our last e-mail stated:

"Right now, the lowest price in the USA on this wine is $63.00 - our six pack price is $29.99 per bottle - a savings of $33 or 52%. I mean, that is CRAZY!

So yes, this Saturday we are tasting a mystery wine - and while it's not exactly priced at what we would call an "everyday drinker", any time I can buy a Maserati for the price of a Kia I usually don't pass it up!"

Taste the next big thing in Pinot Noir

Taste the next big thing in Pinot Noir!
Saturday April 16th, 2011
11am -8pm

Featuring:
2008 Arterberry Maresh "Maresh Vineyard" Pinot Noir
2009 Arterberry Maresh "Maresh Vineyard" Pinot Noir
2008 Arterberry Maresh "Juliard Vineyard" Pinot Noir
2009 Arterberry Maresh "Juliard Vineyard" Pinot Noir
2009 Arterberry Maresh "Dundee Hills" Pinot Noir

No - you probably have not heard of these wines. There is a reason for that...there simply ain't that much to go around.

Sitting at a dinner table last August with some wine lovers we tasted Arterberry Maresh for the first time. The wine was served blind to the group by world-renowned wine writer Josh Raynolds and the consensus at the table was that we were drinking young, incredibly expensive Burgundy. You can imagine how many jaws hit the floor when the reveal came to show that the wine was a relatively inexpensive Oregon Pinot Noir made by a 25 year old. Well, we here at winestore just decided we needed some for our stores...and so when we called Jim Maresh to order some he told us he could MAYBE send us 1 bottle of Chardonnay. Ummm, what? That was not really going to work, so we asked if he was interested in bringing his wines to winestore and the wonderful people in Charlotte. Eight long months have passed and now we have the wine for you - and you have the opportunity to taste these rising stars on our machines this weekend and see what all the chatter in the wine world is all about.

The Maresh Vineyard is the stuff of legend in Oregon Pinot Noir, and 25 year old Jim Maresh comes from a long line of winemakers, farmers and wine lovers. He makes wines that range in price from $25 to $75 and at every price level they outperform their peers. Jim is as old school as they come. He will only pick grapes from 30+ year old Dundee Hills vines. He does not tweak his wines - what he picks is what you drink. Jim recently said in an interview:

" I don't think anyone wants this more than me. This is damn near the only thing I do. I just want to make a wine off the best vines around. I want to put the wine in the people's hand, give them an amazing drinking experience. My wines need to deliver an experience. There needs to be a backstory to the complexity of the wines and the vines."

You probably hear wine lovers talk about how they knew about Silver Oak, Domaine Serene, Caymus, Opus One etc. etc. before they were HUGE wine brands. Well, now you'll get to talk about how you were in on the ground floor at Arterberry Maresh and you'll be drinking better Pinot Noir than just about anyone around...we'll drink to that :)

So we hope to see you this Saturday - no better way to kick off Spring than with some great Pinot Noir and good friends.

Cheers,
The team @ winestore.

A Wonderful Eric Solomon Value!

2008 Mustiguillo Mestis

2008 Mustiguillo Mestis
Regular Price: $19.98
Wine.com Price: $17.29
Winestore: $14.99
SAVE 25%

Exclusive to winestore. in North Carolina!

Charlotte resident and wine importing wizard Eric Solomon has national reputation for finding some of the best value wines in Europe and bringing them to the US. We think he succeeded again with the 2008 Mustiguillo Mestis. Mestis is a blend of 50% Bobal (yes, that is the grape) and the rest Tempranillo, Cabernet, and Grenache. It's a powerful red, with bright acidity to balance out the tough guy tannins. In non wine speak - this is darn tasty wine.

Mestis is short for "Mestizo", a term used in Latin America and Spain for peoples of mixed European and Native American heritage or descent. Naturally, we have absolutely no idea what this has to do with the wine...but should this term come up in an upcoming game of Trivial Pursuit, you will be glad you spent 20 seconds reading that little tibit of information.

We are such big fans of this find, we brought it into North Carolina exclusively for winestore. customers. We hope you like it as much as we do - we'll have it on the machine to taste through the weekend so come on in and see what you think!!

Blind Taste Opus One vs. $25 - $50 Rivals!

Blind Taste Opus One vs. $25 Rivals!
Saturday April 9th, 2011
11am - 8pm
All Day Long

http://www.westrockspirits.com/images/OpusOne.jpghttp://www.awineryreview.com/images/wineries/opusone.jpg

We don't want to do too many blind tastings, as we don't want you to get sick of them! That being said, people come in over and over again asking if we can put Opus One to the test...and given that 2007 is supposed to be one of the best vintages of Opus EVER made, we just had to say yes!

Ahhh, Opus One. The brainchild of the late Robert Mondavi and Baron Phillipe de Rothschild that is a Napa Valley landmark (I mean, the building is really cool!). You may not even like wine or drink wine and you have heard of Opus One. The real question is - If you were to taste the wine and not know that it is Opus One, could you pick it out? If you did not know the price, could not see the label etc. would it still taste better to you than a wine that costs 83% less? Well, it's time to find out!

That is why we're playing "Find the Opus One" this Saturday. It's simple really. Eight wines will all be tasted blind on our machines. One of them will be 2007 Opus One and the others will be an assortment of wines at every price point from a number of different regions. All you have to do is taste and pick your favorite. Yes, that's right, your favorite. If that's the Opus One, then great, if not, well that's OK too. You may be surprised as to what your favorites actually are. Given that Opus sells for north of $150 it is always interesting to see if there are wines that cost $9, $25, $50 or even $75 (which is almost 50% off Opus One!) that taste better.

Some come on in for some tasting fun on Saturday and enjoy some great wine!
