2012 Venge Scout's Honor
2011 Jeff Runquist 1448

2010 Dry Creek Mariner
2012 Lafage Bastide Miraflors
2011 Whitehall Lane Tre Leoni
2011 Conundrum Red Wine
2012 Ca' Momi

With the recent arrivals of two top blends, we decided there was not a better time than now to break out the battle of the blends. There is no wine segment here at winestore. that is getting more love from you, the customers, more than red blends. It could be Petite Sirah and Cabernet, Grenache and Syrah, or a Banshee like blend of nine different grape varieties - you guys are loving them all. There is a chance, yes albeit a small one, that you simply have not found a blend that has worked for you. Well, this weekend we are bringing you the best of the best. If there were ever a chance to find your new house wine, this may be it!

We'll have the new vintage of Venge Scout's Honor to try, some old favorites like Runquist 1448 and some new arrivals like Ca' Momi. You might have family coming in town this weekend, you may be going to visit family or you may heading out on Spring Break - no matter what you're doing this weekend, you're gonna need some wine!

We hope to see you this weekend and, as always, THANK YOU for your business!

2012 Banshee Mordecai has landed!

2012 Banshee "Mordecai" Red Blend

Release Price: $24.99 (Click HERE to see)
Winestore Price: $19.99
Six Pack Price: $14.99*

SAVE 40%

*six pack price only available in store or over the phone. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The 2010 and 2011 Banshee Mordecai were everything we thought they could be and then more. You all bought them at a record pace not just for a month or two, but all year long. You actually bought so much of it that the winery ran out of 2011 before 2012 was released. So we had to wait three months for our favorite wine. People - today is our lucky day. 200 cases of 2012 Banshee Mordecai goodness just waltzed in the door. For $19.99 it is outstanding. For $14.99 per bottle by the six pack, I challenge you to find a better $15 wine. Seriously, if you find one we want to put it on the shelf.

What is in Mordecai this year? Well it is comprised of 33% Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa), 27% Syrah (Anderson Valley), 12% Carignan (Mendocino), 5% Cabernet Franc (Napa), 5% Grenache (Paso), 5% Touriga Nacional (Rockpile), 4% Petit Verdot (Napa), 3% Merlot (Napa), 3% Zinfandel (Dry Creek), 3% Barbera (Sierra Foothills)

Scout's Honor last week and Mordecai this week. This is wine lovers Shangri-La.

2012 Scout's Honor Has Arrived!

2012 Venge Scout's Honor

Winery Price: $38.00
Our Price: Not $38.00

We're expecting today to be insane.

Why do you ask? Scout's Honor has returned.

There are a few wines that we basically get hounded about...and this is one of them. I'm not talking like 3 customers a week come in and casually ask if this wine is back in stock. I'm talking people calling every Monday for the last 12 weeks asking if it has landed yet. To those people - your ship has come in.

Scout's Honor, a full throttle Zinfandel blend from Napa Valley, has got to be putting a dent in the sales of wine powerhouse "The Prisoner". Heck, we don't even have people really ask about Prisoner any more since this train started rollin'. It's taking over like Kudzu on I-85.

What is our price you ask? This is an in store special only. Sorry, but in an online world this is one wine that has no online sales. Why is this? Let's just chalk it up to the wine business. It's weird like that - we don't like it and neither should you - but until we build up our multi million dollar lobbying operation we need to let sleeping dogs lie.

So get on it people - it's go time!

If you have any questions please feel free to give us a call:

First Rosé Of The Season Has Arrived!

2013 Bieler Pere et Fils Rose

Winestore Price: $10.99

We know....it's still slightly chilly outside. That can't stop us from loving on some dry rosé though. We opened up our first bottle of the 2013s last Sunday and we don't plan on looking back.

First one to arrive - 2013 Bieler Pere et Fils Provencale rosé - at the super yummy price of only $10.99. This was one of the breakout hits from last year, so much so that we completely ran out of this product right after July 4th.

Well, we've planned better this year, and the wine is as tasty as it has ever been. So, if you love you some dry rosé as much as we do, swing on by and grab some this weekend. We'll have it on the machine at all three stores available to taste!

Blind Taste Belle Glos vs. $15 Rivals!

Blind Taste Belle Glos Las Alturas!
Saturday March 15th, 2014
11am - 8pm

That's right people, the blind tasting train has come back into the station and it's time for our 3rd Annual Belle Glos Blind Tasting! Given the enormous popularity of the Belle Glos lineup (I know you guys know what we're talking about, we see how much you buy) we need to put them to the ultimate test once a year in a no holds barred blind tasting.  So this Saturday we will be tasting the Belle Glos blind against 7 other rivals all on the tasting machine.
Like we have said many times before, if you don't know the price, can't see the label, and can't hear someone barking in your ear about the wine's "score," then all that is left is the juice and your taste buds. It's a scary proposition for any winemaker. That's why you have marketing departments that design catchy labels, create campaigns to build a wine's image, and spend all of their time and energy essentially trying to convince consumers that a wine is great. The problem is that you can't out "market" a blind tasting.
Which is why we're playing "Find the Belle Glos" this Saturday. It's simple really. Eight wines will all be tasted blind on the tasting machine. One of them will be 2012 Belle Glos Las Alturas Pinot Noir and the others will be an assortment of Pinot etc. at every price point from a number of different regions. All you have to do is taste and pick your favorite. Yes, that's right, your favorite. If that's the Belle Glos, then great, if not, well that's OK too. You may be surprised as to what your favorites actually are.
Get ready to taste some amazing Pinot Noir!

Back up the truck!

2010 Castano Hecula

Release Price: $11.99
Winestore Price: $9.99
5 Day SALE Price: $6.99 (net)
SAVE 42%

Fellow wine drinkers,

After the success of the Wente Chardonnay deal last week, we decided it was time to roll out the equally as popular Hecula for $6.99 per bottle deal. I mean, we are giddy over here with the value play that this wine represents at $10, at $6.99 we're not even sure what to say.

In those previous Hecula deal offerings we have told you that the wine press had been gushing over Hecula for some 10 years now, stating:

"Is the average buyer at this price point ready for this? An amazing value"

"Perhaps the most rewarding under $15 wine I have had in a long time"

"As long as I have been drinking wine this has over-delivered in the value category"

So here we go - five days only. We'll end the sale this Sunday, March 16th at 6pm. Miss out if you feel like it - your friends will be crushing this stuff at their St. Patty's Day Party :)

It's go time!

2012 Lafage Bastide Miraflors

2012 Lafage Bastide Miraflors
Winestore Price: $12.99 per bottle

Last year the breakout wine of the year may have been the 2011 Lafage Bastide Miraflors (the rose of the same name may have been a close second). You may remember that this was a new project between Charlotte based wine importer Eric Solomon and winemaking wizard Jean Marc Lafage. It was getting some serious hype and then wine critic Robert Parker chimed in the conversation with:

"The fact that wines such as this can be purchased is unbelievable. Largely an artisinal wine, it is brilliantly pure with a stunning nose of spring flowers, blackberries, cassis and earth. It is almost incomprehensible that something of this quality, complexity and richness can be purchased for $15 to $50, much less $10 to $12. The 3,000 cases should be gobbled up as quickly as they hit retailers' shelves. I am honored to share my excitement about this amazing wine with readers.
"
- Robert Parker

David Schildknecht, also of The Wine Advocate, piled on with:

"The remarkable world Lafage seems to inhabit (or should I say “create”?), where seemingly impossible ends are reconciled and you get to have your cake and eat it too! A crunch of berry seeds invigorates, even as polish and richness caress. And speaking of “amazing,” that is too weak a word for the utterly improbable, almost absurd value offered by this cuvee."

All that was written about the 2011 vintage of this wine. We say this because 2011 was, by all accounts, a not so great vintage in southern France. So here today we offer you the 2012. A blockbuster vintage for sure, and after tasting it we think this wine will once again rock your world for only $12. We are proud to be the first in the US to offer you this beauty, so get while the gettin' is good. Last year this stuff literally flew off the shelves!

Ignore the hype if you want...all we know is we're buying cases for ourselves, and we think you should too!

Epic Eric Solomon Tasting this Weekend!

Eric Solomon Selections Tasting!
Saturday March 8th, 2014
11am - 8pm

*

FEATURING:
2012 Lafage Miraflors Rouge (New Vintage!)
2010 Mas Doix Salanques
2010 AALTO PS
2012 Solanera
2012 Marcoux Cotes du Rhone
2009 Mas Doix Vieilles Vignes
2012 Binigrau Nounat
2012 Novellum Chardonnay
2011 Tessallae GSM

2010 Clos D'Agon Blanco
2012 Espelt Garnacha

and more!

Time to roll out some new vintages of some wines from our favorite portfolio - Eric Solomon Selections. Included in this tasting on the machine is the arrival of the new vintage of 2012 Bastide Miraflors, the breakout hit wine of 2013 (more on that tomorrow). His wine portfolio from Spain and France is scary good, especially if you are an importer trying to compete with him. His amazing stable of wines includes Marcoux, Benjamin Romeo, Clos Erasmus, La Peira, Janasse, Herencia Altes, Mas Doix, Lafage, Closa Batllet, Chateau Tirecul, AALTO) ...and the list goes on and on. These properties are all the rage at the moment among the critics, and for good reason. They make utterly lush and delicious wines, and yet they are not wines that have sold their souls (ya know, with high alcohol, over-extraction, too much oak and the like) in order to get blessedly high scores from he-who-must-not-be-named. These wines are rich and impressive, but they not only retain their souls, they HAVE soul. Character. Personality. Whatever.

Solomon's book is an embarrassment of riches. We are delighted that he lives in Charlotte and that we have the opportunity to offer so many of his fabulous wines. And we are even more excited to show you the breadth and depth of his portfolio this weekend. The wines will be up on the machine all day Saturday (and a few are already up!). We'll have some special deals running on most of these wines, so we hope to see you this Saturday!

Cheers!
