We love working deals - and this one is a doozie. We're not allowed to publicly tell you what the wine is going to be (you're going to have to come into the store and see for yourself!), but what we can tell you is that the savings are monumental, the winery is top flight, the vintage is awesome, and the juice is outstanding. Not enough to get you excited? How about this:

Right now, the lowest price in the USA on this wine is $63.00 - our six pack price is $29.99 per bottle - a savings of $33 or 52%. I mean, that is CRAZY!

So yes, this Saturday we are tasting a mystery wine - and while it's not exactly priced at what we would call an "everyday drinker", any time I can buy a Maserati for the price of a Kia I usually don't pass it up!

Swing in this Saturday from 2-4pm, drink some amazing juice, maybe buy a bottle for your Final Four viewing party, and, above all else, have a great time!

Saturday March 26th
ALL DAY LONG

In the spirit of "March Madness", we are going to have a sweet sixteen tournament tasting this weekend! Four different countries will each get four entry wines into the tournament. We will have brackets filled out representing all of the match ups. Your job is to taste through the wines and pick your favorites in each round. Each "pick" for a wine to go to the next round is the same as a vote for that wine - the wine with the most votes will advance. Once we tally the votes over the weekend, we will announce the "Final Four" and we will taste those wines for FREE next Thursday. Here is the kicker, the bracket from this Saturday (at each store) with the most correct choices will be deemed the winner. The grand prize? The winner will be able to choose six bottles from any round of the tasting and take them home absolutely FREE.

It's really not as complicated as it sounds - and it should be a ton of fun. If you are at all confused just plan on coming in this Saturday in between your favorite teams playing, taste some great wine with friends, and have a great time.

The entries into the tournament are:

UNITED STATES:
2008 Morgan "Double L" Pinot Noir
2008 T Solomon Wellborn Pinot Noir
2007 Kunde Cabernet
2009 Twenty Bench Cabernet

ITALY:

2007 Vietti Nebbiolo
2006 Il Molino di Grace Chianti

With that purchase, Twenty Bench was born. Since then, Twenty Bench has become one of the most popular sub $20 Napa Cabernet's in the US.

This is full bodied, rich and just an all around fun Cabernet - and for $14.99 this is a serious value. The deal is only good through this Sunday so get while the gettin' is good!

The best value wine we have offered this year!

2009 Borsao Garnacha

http://www.giulianaimports.com/images/label_images/Borsao%202.jpg

Winestore Price: $6.99 (compare around town for $7.99 and $8.99)
Case price: $6.30

Only $75.60 per case!

You may remember that the 2008 Borsao "Berola", at only $14.99, won our Caymus Special Selection wine tasting a few weeks ago. So when we learned that one of the entry level wines from Borsao was back in the market at a price of only $6.99, we just had to give it a taste.

Seriously people, this may be the best $6 wine we have ever tasted. I mean, this is a pretty silly value going on here...we picked up 20 cases last Friday for both our stores and by mid-day Sunday they were all sold - simply by people coming in the store, tasting the wine on the machines, and going plain bonkers when they found out the wine was only $6.99.

So that is why we are alerting you now to this amazing value find. We'll keep it on the machine for you to taste but rest assured - if you're looking for some good "March Madness" wine, some good "Hey, it's Wednesday and I need a drink" wine, or you just want a darn good bottle of wine - this is for you.

For all of you who refuse to buy wine for $6.99 because it's "too cheap" - feel free to delete this e-mail....but as they say "Don't knock it until you try it"!

Taste wines from JUSTIN this Saturday!

Taste the Wines of Justin Vineyards
Saturday March 12th, 2011
11am-8pm

http://www.mikebobbitt.com/522216_JustinLogo_wTriangle.jpghttp://www.justinwine.com/images/main_image/our_vineyards.jpg

Featuring:
2007 Justin Isosceles
2008 Justin Justification
2008 Justin Savant
2009 Justin Obtuse (Dessert Wine)
2008 Justin Cabernet
2008 Justin Reserve Cabernet

Justin has long been one of our favorite producers and it almost seems funny that we have never featured them in a tasting before. They've been making outstanding wine from Paso Robles since 1981 using Bordeaux varietals but to be honest, one sip of these wines and your first thought is not Bordeaux. These wines are California through and through, and if you love the big fruit bombs from Southern California, then you are going to be all over these wines! We're often amazed at how many of you come looking for these wines - and now we're going to roll out their entire lineup for you!

For less than $25 the regular Justin Cabernet is magnificent - follow that all the way up to the Justin Isosceles and you'll be drinking an icon of California wine from one of the best vintages of the last decade. There isn't a wine in this bunch we wouldn't love to take home for dinner.

We're gonna keep this newsletter short because we think the wines will speak for themselves. We hope you can swing by Saturday - we would love to see you!!!

Last Call!

2007 Mas Doix Salanques
http://www.europeancellars.com/webmedia/Salanques%20Label1.jpg

Previous Vintages of this Wine: $50.00
2007 Salanques: $29.99
Full Case Price: $24.99 per bottle

Blend of 65% Garnacha, 15% CariƱena, 10% Syrah, 5% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon

We just received our last drop of 2007 Salanques - our Wine of the Year last year. We received 15 cases in this last drop - our last drop of 30 cases sold out in 7 days! Below is our original e-mail:

We're not big on lists, or points, or force rankings or anything of the sort when it comes to something as subjective as ones taste. That being said, when we first tasted this wine back in August and found out that the retail price was being moved from $50 to $30 we almost fell out of our chair. Mas Doix has long been one of our favorite producers, and Salanques is quite the gem in their portfolio. This rich, dense Priorat is from a brilliant vintage, and at a price that's a remarkable value. That's because Salenques is the young vines version of the great Mas Doix estate bottling in Priorat. So instead of century old vines, these vines are just a bunch of rowdy youngsters at about seventy years of age. Just think...Mas Doix makes a wine called "Doix" that carries a price tag of $110.00. Salanques is the juice that did not make the cut for "Doix" and it is $29.99 per bottle - we are talking extreme value here.

We've got the wine on the machine for you to taste and see for yourself, but we are here to say - based on a case price of $24.99, this is the best $25 wine we have ever offered in our store and is the best wine in terms of the quality to price ratio that we have offered this year. Maybe this will be your first Grenache based wine, maybe this will be your first wine from the Priorat region, but do yourself a favor and grab a bottle of this. This is as close to a sure thing as it gets in the world of wine.

Taste 2000 Clos Erasmus!
One of the most sought after wines in the world!
Taste other wines from the famed Priorat region as well!

Featuring:
2000 Clos Erasmus (made by Charlotte resident Daphne Glorian)
2007 Mas Doix Salanques
2007 Mas D'en Compte
2008 Black Slate "Gratallops"
2005 Closa Batllet
2008 Onix Priorat

(Just to begin - how cool is it that one of the most influencial female winemakers on the planet lives right here in Charlotte!)

Roughly speaking, when you try to explain wine to people, you just make simple comparisons and contrasts. Oregon Pinot Gris, if you haven't had it, seems like a simple, friendly kind of Italian Pinot Grigio, only without the minerally dustiness. It's not at all like French Pinot Gris, with its pungent nose, richness, fat, earth and occasional residual sugar

Of course, this only works if people know the wines to which you refer: if they don't know Italian Pinot Grigio or Alsace Pinot Gris, well, then it's not much help. I'd add that their lives are demonstrably impoverished as well, but that's just me. I'm trying to drink everything, as quickly as I can

But some wines defy description: maybe Alsace Pinot Gris is one of those. Old Aussie Semillon would be another, along with some other vinous oddities from around the world, like my neighboring vine, the Norton. So while I like to describe Priorat as "dry Port", I'm not sure that really explains exactly the power, richness, intensity, fruit, earth, flora and perhaps even fauna of great Priorat. With a young Port, you can get a hefty dose of most of those, along with some sugar. Priorat is, in contrast, bone dry, hence "dry Port."

But that's not exactly it. So how about this one: think of the most intense Barossa Valley Shiraz, and then remove the sugar (okay, only a few of Barossa Shiraz have some residual sugar) and the excessive American oak, coconut-to-sawdust notes and add some dried leaves and flowers and then, most importantly, add tart fruits in the finish. You see, while Priorat is a uber-ripe bomb, unlike the uber-ripe wines of the New World, there is something under-ripe about it too. I guess you could say it's similar to Amarone in that, except it's not really like Amarone.

And to make matters worse, Priorats vary from estate to estate: some are earthier than others, some are built with more Carinena than others, others eschew the grape altogether for the more noble Garnacha, some use only French oak and so on. Along that continuum, Clos Erasmus is amongst the most intense wines the region offers. But Erasmus owner Daphne Glorian crafts wines of unabashed vibrancy and generosity, with impeccable balance.

Charlotte residents are lucky that Daphne makes her home here and so they get more than their fair share of these dynamos. The 2000 we're tasting this weekend should offer the best possible explanation of what the region does that is so incomparable and indescribable.

Happy Tasting and we'll see you Saturday!
