Sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes you just stumble into an amazing deal...and that is what happened with us and the 2006 HDV Belle Cousine. While you may have never heard of HDV, you probably have heard of the forces behind this joint venture - the Hyde Family and Aubert de Villaine. The Hyde Family, owners of the famouse Hyde Vineyard, produce grapes used by some of the greatest names in California winemaking including Kistler, Paul Hobbs, Robert Mondavi, Ramey, and Patz & Hall among others. Aubert de Villaine is probably the most recognized name in Pinot Noir, serving as Co-Director of Domaine Romanee-Conti. Arguably the greatest winery in the world, Romanee Conti produces a slew of Pinot Noir from Burgundy that usually fetch anywhere from $1,000-$5,000 per bottle. I mean, that is a pretty solid partnership if you ask me.
Now we come to the HDV Belle Cousine. A blend of Cabernet, Merlot, Malbec and a few other grapes this wine is pretty darn good for $60 - for $24.99 this wine is ridiculous. Buy a six pack to enjoy over the next year, buy 1 bottle just because you love a good deal, or pass on this one - but let it be known that we have never seen this wine at this price...ever.
