FEATURED WINES (partial list)
2005 Capcanes Cabrida
2007 Mas D'en Compte
2004 Muga Seleccion Especial
2007 Almirez
2005 Quinta Sardonia (made by the famed winemaker Peter Sisseck)
2005 Closa Batllet
2005 Merum Ardiles

Let's be honest: Jorge Ordonez' brilliant wine importing career is partially based upon timing, as the US market is just now emerging as the busiest place for wine commerce in the world. His choice of Spain has augured well, as Spain has only recently decided to create world-class wines throughout its landscape. As the third most prolific maker of wines in the world, Spain can bring a lot of great wine to the table, when it finally decides to do so. But, his many wines reflect his focus upon rich and structured reds, juicy and distinctive whites, even a brilliant dessert wine.

All that said, there are lots of folks who import wines; and it’s rare to find one with a track record and portfolio like Eric Solomon’s. His propensity for ferreting out great wines and greater values from Spain and France has kept him in the ranks of the top importers for nearly two decades. His Spanish portfolio is legendary; and other than Jorge, no one had greater insight into the juggernaut that Spain was about to become, and no one has built a more brilliant Spanish portfolio.

So that is why this weekend we are putting the wines of Eric Solomon and Jorge Ordonez up against each other in an EPIC taste off! We'll have juggernauts like the 2005 Capcanes Cabrida vs. Muga and we'll also have entry level offerings like Evodia vs. Atteca (both are private ventures, both are 100% grenache, both are from Calatayud). It's gonna be a full on Spanish throw down.

If you are into ridiculously tasty Spanish wines, this is the tasting for you! We'll also have some silly deals going on with many of the wines, so silly we can't put them in writing without sending our competition into hissy fits!

We hope to see you on Saturday and Happy Tasting!
