You read that correctly. 2012 Rombauer Chardonnay won the 1st Annual Rombauer Blind Tasting. I wish I could sit here and tell you that some $6.00 Chardonnay bested all the heavyweights, but it just did not happen this year. The best team won. Cinderella will have to wait until next year.
Now it may be important to point out that the runner up was 2011 Ventana Chardonnay, which clocks in at only $12.99 per bottle. It lost to Rombauer by all of 1 vote. That's right - if just one person had swung the other way we would have had a $12 winner. That still does not take away from the fact that Ventana is a screaming deal at this price.
