Charlotte resident and wine importing wizard Eric Solomon has a national reputation for finding some of the best value wines in Europe and bringing them to the US. We think he succeeded again with the 2009 Mustiguillo Mestis. Mestis is a blend of 50% Bobal (yes, that is the grape) and the rest Tempranillo, Cabernet, and Grenache. It's a powerful red, with bright acidity to balance out the tough guy tannins. In non wine speak - this is darn tasty wine.
Mestis is short for "Mestizo", a term used in Latin America and Spain for people of mixed European and Native American heritage or descent. Naturally, we have absolutely no idea what this has to do with the wine...but should this term come up in an upcoming game of Trivial Pursuit, you will be glad you spent 20 seconds reading that little tidbit of information.
