FREE Malbec Tasting!
Saturday September 1st, 2012
2pm-4pm
Featuring:
2009 Darioush Capataz Malbec
2008 Gratia Malbec Reserva
2010 Filus Malbec
Were you aware that Napa Winery Darioush
makes Malbec in Mendoza? Don't worry...we had no idea either until
about 4 days ago. So obviously, we had to taste the wine to see if it
was worth bringing in and people, we are here to tell you this is one of
the best Malbecs we have had in a long time.
Is it at a daily drinking price? No no...this is at the Darioush type
price of nearly $50 per bottle but hey, might as well try a little for
free, right? To satisfy those of you who are a little more thrifty, like
myself, we're going to be tasting the 2010 Filus Malbec and the 2008
Gratia Reserva as well.
In Argentina, you plant Malbec up in the foothills of the Andes, in an
area called Mendoza, where soils can be quite depleted, where moisture
comes only from mountain runoff, and if rain arrives, it can be in the
form of destructive hail and the growing season goes on and on and the
elevated vineyards give the vines something between sunburn and a
steroid dose of photosynthesis and here Malbec is - home.
At least, so it would seem, because Malbec shows it's expression in the
elevated vineyards of Mendoza: two thousand to three thousand feet up
or more, with powdery, desiccated soils. Here in Mendoza, Malbec has
something to say; quite a lot to say, in fact.
Fifteen years ago, Malbec was Malbec. If it was drinkable, it was from
Argentina. Ten years ago, we discovered that Mendoza Malbec was very
interesting and even occasionally delicious wine. In the last five
years, we have seen that each vineyard within Mendoza has a slightly
different set of flavors and aromas to add to the character of Malbec.
And even more tantalizing, when we think we have figured out that Lujan
de Cujo (for instance) is a vineyard that gives a certain melon rind
note to the rich and seductive Malbec grown there, the climate moves on.
Global warming, global weirding, call it what you will, but cool,
mountainous valleys like the Uco Valley were off limits twenty years ago
for Malbec. Today the cool and shorter growing season offers to
Malbec's mercurial character a place where it can be less lush and more
balanced. The Uco Valley doesn't make Argentina's best Malbecs, but
there's no one I have talked to in Argentina who doesn't want to have
some sweet property in the Uco Valley, just in case it turns into the
country's sweet Malbec spot.
So come on in this weekend and taste some crazy great Malbec and we'll close out summer in style!!

For the second time in as many weeks we
have a fun Mystery Tasting....except this time the wine is one we have
been waiting on since February to arrive! We tasted this 2005 Napa blend
and immedietly ordered every last bottle at the winery, and we are
going to feature it for the first time at winestore (and in North
Carolina) this Saturday!
It's not the $6.99 daily wine that we all know and love, but if you're
in the market for some $25 wine that will knock your socks off you are
going to want to try some of this stuff. It's super small production
(only 600 cases produced) and poured at some of the best restaurants in
Northern California (Michael Mina, Masa, Redd, Cyrus etc.)
So swing on in this Saturday and see what we have been working on bringing you for the last 7 months!

The Prisoner vs. The World
Saturday August 18th, 2012
11am - 8pm
VS.
Featuring:
2010 Orin Swift "The Prisoner"
2010 Scout's Honor Red Blend
2007 St. Supery Napa Cabernet
2010 Jeff Runquist 1448
2008 Ladera Napa Valley Cabernet
2008 Benjamin Romeo Predicador
2008 Laurel Glen Counterpoint
2010 Niepoort Twisted
and a few other surprises!
Many, many times we hear from customers, "Orin Swift "The Prisoner" is
the best wine in the world under $35." Let's be honest, that is a pretty
bold statement. We thought about it a little more and decided to have a
tasting this Saturday where we put The Prisoner up against a slew of
wines from all over the world, all under $35, that we think could
potentially give it a run for its money. All the wines will be up on our
tasting machine and we will allow each person tasting one chance to
vote for their favorite. Once we tally up all the votes, we will release
the winner next week in an e-mail.
This should be a fairly revealing tasting...we know we are excited to
taste all of these beasts next to each other, so we can come to our own
conclusions. Is The Prisoner simply universally loved by all? Does it
have no detractors? I guess we will find out this weekend!!
We hope to see you on Saturday and as always, thank you for your business!
Cheers,
The team @ winestore.

Lowest Price in the USA!
You guys don't have to believe us - but this wine is a bloody legend for
only $6.99 per bottle! We've discussed before how sometimes we wonder
how a wine can come all they way across the pond and still cost only
$6.99. But who cares, right? It tastes amazing and the price is right.
Probably important to point out that expectations, of course, have to be
set. This wine will not change your life and this is not the wine you
should give your boss for his Birthday. This is, however, the wine we
are going to serve at our Labor Day cookout and at our Panthers tailgate
(yes, we bring wine to the tailgate - is that weird?)
The winery wants us to talk to you about how this Tempranillo and
Grenache blend is harvested at 2,800 ft and the grape selection is super
careful and the color is shiny (what?). That's just not how we roll.
We're simply going to tell you that if you love you some red wine you're
gonna wanna go ahead and get yourself some of this stuff.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

What are we tasting?
100% Cabernet from Napa Valley (2007 Vintage)
Harris Teeter Price: $38.99 per bottle
Winestore Price: $19.99 (net) per bottle
SAVE 49%
Mystery tastings have always been popular
here at winestore., and sometimes we just have to do them because the
competition goes crazy when we offer insanely low prices (have you ever
heard of such a thing?) So here we are again, and we've worked out
another doozie of a deal with this winery and it is from the epic 2007
vintage.
All estate grown Cabernet that's full of that intense Napa power we
have all grown to know and love... for less than $20. There are not too
many 2007 Napa Cabs left in the market - I can count them on one hand.
This is a wonderful opportunity to get a great wine from a great
vintage, at a great price.
This also provides us with one more opportunity to show that while one
may think big box (Harris Teeter, Total Wine) means bigger savings, it
simply is not the case.
As always, THANK YOU for your business!

$9.99 Red Wine Stunner!
2010 Halos de Jupiter Costieres de Nimes
Release Price: $13.99
Winestore Price: $9.99

There are some truths in the wine business - and one you need to know
for sure is that if you find a wine made by Philippe Cambie for under
$10, you buy it.
Cambie hails from outside the Rhone
region (Herault in the old Midi; close by but a world away in French
wine industry terms) but he has had increasing impact upon the Grenache
based wines of the Rhone Valley (and surrounding areas such as the
Costieres de Nimes) since his arrival in the area in 1998. To
say he is a workhorse would be an understatement: amongst the many
estates he has assisted or assists are estates we have helped to promote
here at winestore: in Spain, Mas Alta in Priorat and the venerable
Celler Capcanes in Montsant; in France, Domaine Puech Haut, Clos Saint
Jean, Feraud Brunel, le Vieux Donjon, Domaine la Garrigue, Domaine
Boisson, Bosquet des Papes, Grand Tinel, Senechaux, Mont Olivet, and
finally, his own project, Halos de Jupiter.
The wines from this project are various in region and price, but when
you put extremely high quality juice out there where we can grab it at
an extremely fun price, we jump all over it.
We only have 21 cases at this price (we wish there was more), but
unfortunately that is how it goes sometimes in the wine business. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

2010 Marcoux Cotes Du Rhone
Release Price: $27.99
SALE Price: $17.99 (net)
SAVE 36%
Lowest Price in the USA
Only 71 bottles available at this price!
You may remember that we chose 2010
Marcoux Cotes Du Rhone as our wine of the year last year. Given our
support of Marcoux we have bought literally the last 71 bottles of 2010
available at wholesale.
When we first told you about this wine we waxed poetic for paragraphs
about how much we LOVE Marcoux, and Eric Solomon Selections, and how
2010 is an epic vintage in the Rhone....yada yada yada.
Now, at $17.99 per bottle, we have to focus on price for just a second.
At this price it may be the best wine in the store when looking at
quality / price ratios. It basically drinks like a baby Chateauneuf du
Pape at a not so Chateauneuf price point. If you've already tried the
Marcoux Cotes du Rhone and loved it like we did, you may not want to
miss the 2010 Marcoux Lorentine Lirac!
It has been a fun ride with this wine - and we hate to see it go...but
that being said we love to get you a wine of this amazing caliber at an
equally amazing price. Go ahead, grab a bottle...all the cool kids are
doing it :)

FREE Tasting this Thursday!
Featuring Vignerons de Buxy Montagny Chardonnay
Thursday August 9th 6-8PM
You do not often hear the words
"value" & "white Burgundy" used in the same sentence to describe a
wine. This is one of the world's greatest cooperatives and there is
greater concentration and fullness in their wines than in all but a
handful of Montagny producers.
We were so excited about this
new find, we are giving our loyal customers a chance to taste it for
FREE Thursday night. If that's not enough, we'll also have 3 other great
wines to try that night from Jeanne Courteaud & Tryon Distributing.
Remember, we host our wine tastings at both winestore locations,
Southpark & Blakeney. So, round up all your wine loving friends and
make sure to join us on Thursday night. Check out the wines below
& we look forward to seeing you!

make you think it's 1989!
We also were alerted this morning to a multitude of deals being offered
by one of our local distributors, and needless to say - we took
advantage of the low prices. We will have a lot of wines on the machine

2008 Artadi "El Seque"
Release Price: $14.99
Winestore Price: $9.99
SAVE 33%
Lowest Price in the USA!
Artadi is not simply a great producer of
Rioja, but is one of the most important producers in Spain. While Rioja
is their home turf, they have recently been purchasing land in some
lesser known "undiscovered" parts of Spain, namely Alicante. This is
where they produce this phenomenal value of a Monastrell - full of ripe,
big fruit and soft, easy tannins. All for only $10.
We're always looking for the Tuesday night wine to go with
Cheeseburgers, or the Thursday night Sushi take out wine. This is that
wine. No, your friends will not sit around and wax poetic about the
tertiary flavors and the notes of saddle leather and crushed black
pepper. Yes - you will be able to sit down with your friends, finish a
couple of bottles, have an amazing time (unless your friends are boring)
and know you saved a few bucks. Isn't that what wine drinking is
supposed to be about?
We only have about 12 cases at this price, so we hope you enjoy it as much as we have!
