THE Wine of Summer?

2013 Whispering Angel

2013 Whispering Angel Rosé
Winestore Price: $17.99 (net)

It's getting hot...and humid...and in my house that means we drink more rosé. Why? Because it is a refreshing food friendly beverage that will delight on a hot summer day.

Now we sell all sorts of dry rosé, but there is one Rosé of the moment right now that is sweeping the nation like wildfire - and it's called Whispering Angel. There are all sorts of stories flying around - helicopter rides back into NYC from the Hamptons because there is none to be found on Long Island; long lines in Miami at liquor stores before stores even open to grab what product they have coming in for the weekend. It's basically like THIS scene during the height of the Cabbage Patch craze. (Seriously the video in that link is amazing - you will want to watch it)

No doubt the wine is pretty delicious, hence the reason we are bringing it to you today. Worth of all the hype? We'll let you decide. Know this though - will do not accept bribes and we will not tolerate customers getting in fisticuffs over a bottle of wine :)

Come on in and see what all the fuss is about!

Taste The Best For Father's Day!

Father's Day Tasting!
Saturday June 14th, 2014
11am - 8pm
ALL DAY LONG!

http://gothamist.com/attachments/arts_jamie/dec511repeal.jpg

Featuring:
2012 Caymus Cabernet 40th Anniversary
2013 Belle Glos Clark & Telephone
2010 Montevetrano
2011 Merry Edwards Russian River Pinot Noir
2012 Eric Kent Small Town Pinot Noir
2005 Laurel Glen Estate Cabernet
2012 Tantara Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir
2011 Clos Erasmus "Laurel" (There was no Erasmus in 2011)

They say that men are better than woman at math, but then the people who usually say that are men. Go figure. When it's comes to figuring, we're told that men are better with numbers, with figures (I feel a pun coming on but I'm going to back away quietly from that one), that there is something about the certitude of numerical depiction that appeals to a man. Or maybe that men are just obsessed with numbers: .300 batting averages, 50 quarterback ratings, triple doubles or maybe even a 5 handicap.

Maybe this is why the 100-point system appeals to so many men. Despite the inherent ambiguity of wine (it changes, some people like certain styles more than others), there is something so reassuring about knowing that the god of wine has assigned it a number and now you know that your cellar has thirty 95 point wines and above (and that you still don't have a 100 point wine notched on your bedpost, I mean gun).

Fret not, gentlemen, numbers mean nothing! Taste is everything (like the beer commercial says); so why not enjoy Father's Day weekend tasting some of the most delicious wines any father (or son of a father) could hope to taste?

So this weekend we're rolling out the big dogs of the world of winedom. Italian cult wine Montevetrano - check. Cabernet powerhouse Caymus - check. 1st Growth Bordeaux dead ringer Laurel Glen - double check. It's like a who's who of wine superstars, all rolled out on our tasting machines for your drinking pleasure.

Best of all, the wines we're tasting this weekend for Father's Day are worth many, many points. How many points? Well, that's up to you. You're the numbers man.

Happy Tasting and we'll see you Saturday!

T Solomon Wellborn Pinot Noir Is Back! Kindof....

2012 Tantara Santa Barbara Pinot

2012 Tantara Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir
Winestore Price: $24.99

Many of you may remember the T. Solomon Wellborn Pinot Noir from a few years ago - you know, the Tantara Pinot Noir that was priced at $25 that we sold like crazy. Then Tantara stopped making the wine. Needless to say that was no bueno.

All of a sudden we are informed that while T. Solomon is still no longer in existence, Tantara is taking the EXACT SAME JUICE and bottling under a new label for them - Tantara Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir. Probably a good move on their part as it helps build the Tantara brand vs. T. Solomon which was just a cool label with Tantara nowhere except on the cork....and yes, this is still a blend of barrels that don't make the cut for their single vineyard bottlings (which are priced at not so friendly prices of $50 and up).

So, we are back in the Tantara game - and of course this stuff is as delicious as ever. If you were a T. Solomon Wellborn fan or you just are a fan of great $25 and under Pinot Noir, this is right in your killzone.

Chardonnay Lovers - Do Not Miss This Wine!

2013 Waccamaw Chardonnay

Release Price: $24.99
Winestore Price: $14.99
Six Pack Price: $12.99 per bottle*
SAVE 50%

*Six pack price only available in store / over the phone orders

More wine from your friends at Banshee. You most likely by now have had yourself a bottle of Waccamaw Proprietary Red, and if sales are any indication you guys are absolutely loving it. Once we found out they made a Chardonnay as well (and had the opportunity to taste this little gem) we pounced like a cheetah and bought all we could get our hands on.

This Chardonnay embodies everything we look for in the Californian version of this varietal. Some butter, some oak - but nothing too over the top or pronounced. Perfect harmony so it can pair well with food, or with just sitting on our back deck and soaking up some rays.

Given the gigantic chunk we bought of this wine, we also are able to offer it to you at a pretty insane price. While we will have this wine available to taste at all 3 stores for FREE all day today, we will have it on the machine all week for you to take a test drive. We're pretty sure this may become your new house Chardonnay....it sure is ours.
