Last Call!

2011 Hilary Goldschmidt Cabernet

Winery Price: $34.99 (Click HERE to see)
Winestore Price: $24.99 (net)
SAVE 29%

LAST CALL! Our final delivery of the 2011 vintage arrived this morning (just in time for Turkey Day!). We ended up receiving 20 extra cases (on top of the 80 that landed) as a thank you for your support. There there are 39 cases left. First come, first served!

This wine has an awesome story.

Are you familiar with Opus One? You have probably heard of it. It's like $200 per bottle. Heck, even visiting the winery sets you back a solid $60...that is without tasting anything. We've driven by Opus many times on Highway 29 and marveled at the beautiful vineyards. One thing we did not know, not all of those vineyards around the winery belong to Opus. Some of them belong to Nick Goldschmidt.

The picture above is taken from the Charming Creek vineyard, which is where Nick Golschmidt produces his 100% Oakville Cabernet "Hilary" named for his youngest daughter. That building in the background is Opus One. The distance for any golfers out there is basically a pitching wedge. Funny enough, the grapes from Charming Creek used to go into Opus One, but not anymore.

The best part of this little narrative, is that Nick Goldschmidt was kicked out of the Oakville Winegrowers Association when they found out where he was going to price this wine. Once we heard that he was basically our main man. Once we tasted the wine we bought everything we could get our hands on. Unfortunately only 155 cases.

So Opus One quality for $25. Sign me up.

Thanksgiving Wine Specials!

Thanksgiving Wine Deals!!
http://www.wired.com/geekmom/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/a-charlie-brown-thanksgiving-original1.jpg

Let's be honest here people....nothing says Thanksgiving like drinking some vino with family and friends (well, other than Turkey). Maybe you share a glass with your dad while you deep fry that Turkey. Maybe you share a glass with your siblings while watching some football. Maybe you just watch Aunt Alice polish off an entire bottle before Thanksgiving dinner and then proceed to go take a "nap". It doesn't matter when or how you drink it - but you're gonna need some vino over the next week.

That is why we are pulling out some hot deals on some of our favorite wines! All prices are good through Sunday November 24th!

Better than "The Prisoner" for $14.99?

2011 Banshee "Mordecai" Red Blend

Release Price: $24.99 (Click HERE to see)
Winestore Price: $19.99
Six Pack Price: $14.99*

SAVE 40%

*six pack price only available in store or over the phone. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The 2010 Banshee Mordecai was everything we thought it could be and then more. You all bought it at a record pace not just for a month or two, but all year long. So when we heard the 2010 had run out and 2011 was coming our way we were worried. Could it top 2010? People...this wine is insane for the money. For $19.99 it is outstanding. For $14.99 per bottle by the six pack, I challenge you to find a better $15 wine. Seriously, if you find one we want to put it on the shelf.

What is in Modecai? Well, it is a blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Cab Franc from Howell Mountain, Oakville, Rutherford and Coombsville with some Syrah, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah, Grenache, Montepulciano, Mourvedre, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir and Carignane thrown in for good measure. Yes, you read that correctly.

So here we go, just in time for Turkey Day and corporate gift giving. We hope you love it as much as we do!

Save 26% Off Total Wine...Everyday

Does Big Box mean Big Savings?
http://www.thefutureworkplace.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/saving-money.JPG

Every now and again, we feel it's appropriate to tackle the issue of wine prices. Not in the educational sense like Doug does on occasion, but rather straight up store vs. store (or bottle vs bottle). Since we opened in 2006, we've been asked on numerous occasions how our prices stack up against the "big box" retailers. Most often the store in question is Total Wine. It's a fair question as most of us just assume that a bigger store means lower prices. Large retailers are supposed to wield endless amounts of buying power in order get lower prices and squash independent retailers right?? Well, not exactly. We thought we would put this theory to the test by purchasing a case from Total Wine and comparing it to the exact same case from winestore. We selected several wines for every day drinking (e.g. Mas Donis and La Marca Prosecco) and a few nicer wines for a special occasion (e.g. Rombauer Chardonnay and Kunde Cabernet). The results were as follows:
Case of wine from Total Wine (with tax): $229.90 - click here to view receipt
Case of wine from winestore. (with tax).: $171.04 - click here to view receipt
Savings of 26% or $58.86
We were not surprised but we thought you might be. Even if we did not discount mixed cases by 10% (we do - Total Wine does NOT) you would still be saving $46. What could be better than being able to support local business and save money at the same time? What could you do with the extra 60 bones? You could buy several cases of diapers, a couple rounds of drinks (with room to spare) for you and your friends, groceries to cook your loved one a nice meal at home, babysitter money and cash for the movies and that's just the tip of the iceberg!

All in all we want you to know we are looking out for you and your wallet - bringing you the best wine possible for the lowest prices.

If you don't feel like viewing the receipts, one example of the price difference is:

2012 Rombauer Chardonnay

Enjoy your extra cash and we'll see you soon!

FREE Tasting this Saturday!

Meyer Family vs. Silver Oak!
FREE TASTING
Saturday November 16th, 2013
2pm-until the wine runs out!

Featuring:
2008 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet
2010 Meyer Family Fluffy Billows Cabernet

The eponymous Meyer family of Meyer Family Cellars includes Bonny Meyer, for whom the legendary Bonny's Vineyard is named. Bonny's Vineyard was, as you probably know,  the most sought-after wine in the Silver Oak stable. Bonny's late husband Justin Meyer had named the vineyard for her, and it was the jewel in the crown that Justin Meyer crafted at Silver Oak. In 1991, he stopped making a single vineyard wine, insisting that Silver Oak's worldwide popularity made it too troublesome to continue to make a 400 case production wine, with every customer assuming that they could buy access to that limited production wine.

Justin's son Matt, finally talked the family into returning to a Bonny's Vineyard Cabernet in 2001; Justin Meyer passed away suddenly in 2003 and never saw the release of the wine. The 2003 was the inaugural release of that wine, and they have expanded their portfolio to include Spitfire Cabernet, Fluffy Billows Cabernet, Highground Syrah, Syrah, Rose and Port. This Saturday we are putting one of their entry level Cabs (Fluffy Billows) up against the entry level Silver Oak (Alexander Valley) in a FREE side by side taste off.

It should be pretty awesome. At the very least, we'll all get to drink some pretty awesome Cabernet!

We hope to see you Saturday and as always, THANK YOU for your business.

Blind Taste Kistler Chardonnay vs. $25 Rivals!

Taste Kistler Chardonnay Blind!
Saturday November 9th, 2013
11am - 8pm

http://winetastingguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/brown-paper-bag-blind-tasting.jpg
You've tasted Rombauer Chardonnay Blind against $25 rivals - but could you pick out some ultra premium Chardonnay in a blind tasting lineup? We think we have some wines that are dead ringers for high end Cali Chard (at 1/3 of the price), and now we are going to put our thesis to the test.

So this Saturday we are playing "Find the 2012 Kistler Sonoma Mountain Chardonnay." Eight white wines will be blind on the machine - and to get through all 8 wines will only be $10.00. One of those wines will be 2012 Kistler Sonoma Mountain Chardonnay and the rest will be a host of other wines that we think will rock your Chardonnay world.

Since last time we did a blind tasting it was such a hit, we again have an added incentive for all of you who are just super sure you can pick the Kistler out in a lineup - should you be able to guess it correctly, we will put $10.00 back on your tasting card. That's right - you get to drink for free :)

It should be a fun tasting, so we hope to see all of you out this Saturday. As always, THANK YOU for your business. We love you guys!

A New Wine From An Italian Icon!

2011 Montevetrano CORE

Release Price: $30.00
Winestore Price: $21.99
SAVE 27%

Ahhh, Montevetrano. You may not have ever heard about this wine. It is an Italian cult wine that flies way under the radar. That said, it is a special wine to us. The 1994 Montevetrano was one of the first wines that really made us do a double take and ask "Wow, can wine really be like that?" Since 1985 Montevetrano has produced one wine - Montevetrano. That all changed with the 2011 vintage.

CORE (pronounced Kor-Ay) is local Italian dialect for heart (just in case you were wondering). Core is a fascinating new 100% Aglianico from Campania, and with the help of the brilliant Ricardo Cotarella, this shows the unabashedly fruity side of Aglianico without sacrificing the depth that derives from prime location and its characteristic regional notes. I know...it seems odd that we might showcase a winery you've never heard of with a grape you may be unfamiliar with - but that is why we are here! Something new, exciting, different and delicious. All for a respectable $25 price tag - a relative bargain given Montevetrano in a great year can run you north of $70.00

So if Italy is your thing, or good wine is your thing, or you just need a great bottle of wine to go with Burgers tonight, get yourself some of this stuff!

We love us some Davis Family wines....and we didn't even know these guys existed until back in January. The wines, especially the Chardonnay and the Pinot Noir, are delicious.
