We are constantly trying to work deals for you - like every single day we are scouring the world for crazy discounts. As is the case with the best deals we find, we are not allowed to publicly tell you what the wine is going to be (you're going to have to come into the store and see for yourself!), but what we can tell you is that the savings are monumental, the winery is top flight, the vintage is awesome, and the juice is outstanding. Not enough to get you excited? How about this:

Right now, the lowest price in the USA on this wine is $50.00 - our per bottle price is $24.99 per bottle - a savings of $25 or 50%. I mean, that is CRAZY!

So yes, this Saturday we are tasting a mystery wine - and while it's not exactly priced at what we would call an "everyday drinker", any time I can buy a Yacht for the price of a Boston Whaler outboard, I usually don't pass it up!

Swing by any of our three stores this Saturday from 1-3pm, drink some amazing juice, maybe buy a bottle for your Saturday dinner with family or friends, and, above all else, have a great time!

Last Call!

Last Call on Mestis!

Mustiguillo Mestis Red
Release Price: $15.99
Last Call Price: $12.99 (net)
SAVE 23%

Mustiguillo Mestis Blanco
Release Price: $15.99
Last Call Price: $12.99 (net)
SAVE 23%

We've been working with the wines of Bodegas Mustiguillo for a LONG time. We still have some of the ridiculously awesome 2004 Finca Terrerazo in our wine cabinets, and as it warms up outside we find ourselves drinking the white wine as quickly as we take down Fresca.

Bodegas Mustiguillo is a champion of indigenous Spanish varietals. The Mestis Blanco (white wine) is mostly made of a little grape no one knows called Merseguera, with a bit of help from Viognier and Malvasia. It is a new southern Spanish white that is completely charming and utterly fascinating. The Mestis Red is a blend of Bobal, Cabernet and Tempranillo. Most people have no idea how important Bobal could be to their lives, if only they will try it. Mustiguillo has almost single-handedly proven how great the grape can be and here they've tossed in a few percentages of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Well, Mustiguillo is no longer working with Eric Solomon Selections so until they find a new importer, what is left in the US is all that is available. Best to go ahead and let you know about this tragedy so those of you who have made these wines your daily drinkers can lock down a good supply :)

We have 25 cases of white and 56 cases of red available and then it is no more :(

2010 Jeff Runquist 1448 Red Blend           ($17.99)

The new vintage of Charlotte favorite Jeff Runquist Petite Sirah has arrived and well, that just means we have to have a Jeff Runquist tasting to taste all of his amazing juice! We'll have the new vintage of Barbera, the new vintage of Sangiovese (our personal favorite) and a host of other Runquist gems. There is a little something for everyone when we do these tastings. Cab, Sangiovese, Petite Sirah - and on the tasting machines you can even create your own personal blend to taste (just kidding! Not really! Maybe we are maybe we aren't). Good news is we are going to be dropping into the mid 40s at night this weekend and that is a little something called perfect Runquist drinking weather.

These are big wines, and the definition of fun drinking. Your dinner party guests will swoon over this stuff. Your neighbor that you dropped a bottle off for will be forever thankful. Drinking wine is fun and when you put some Jeff Runquist in the glass the fun factor goes up by several basis points. Oh - and did we mention you can't buy these wines for less anywhere in NC!

As always, THANK YOU for your business and we hope to see you this weekend!

Taste The Best $24 Wine We Have Had This Year!

2010 Whitehall Lane Tre Leoni

Winestore Price: $23.99 (net)

Every now and again, there is a wine that stops us dead in our tracks. Sometimes the wine is $50. Sometimes the wine is $10. Today it is $24.

The 2010 Whitehall Lane Tre Leoni is, without a doubt, the best $25 wine we have had this year. Might be the best in a couple of years. If it's not, it is darn close. Here you have one of Napa Valley's most consistent and well respected producers offering a delightful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Why this blend? Because if delicious fruit is good, a lot of delicious fruit just has to be better!

While this won't be something we can offer year 'round, we brought in 140 cases for you to take home. Why? Because we like you.

We'll have this gem up on the machine at all three stores for you to taste, and we feel pretty confident you'll love it as much as we do!

We need to get this wine in a blind tasting asap!

What's the big complaint about Robert Parker? Lots of people are probably motivated by little more than jealousy, but many believe that there is something inherently wrong with one man having so much power in the marketplace. Query many of those folks a bit more and you find that they wouldn't mind owning that sort of power; they just don't like what Parker does with his power. So they aren't being honest: it's not that one man shouldn't have power, it's that THIS man shouldn't have that much power.

Sounds like sour grapes to me. Parker's affection for big, unctuous red wines is legendary and despite the fact that he tastes tens of thousands of wines each year, he knows exactly what he's looking for and if he likes something, it's undeniably cut from that loud and powerful cloth.

Not everybody wants wines of such intensity; but Parker's success is proof that plenty do and if they are looking for one of the famous names among these powerhouses, they could do worse than purchase Meyer Family Bonny's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.

The eponymous Meyer family includes Bonny Meyer, for whom the Bonny's Vineyard is named. Bonny's Vineyard was, as you probably know,  the most sought-after wine in the Silver Oak stable. Bonny's late husband Justin Meyer had named the vineyard for her, and it was the jewel in the crown that Justin Meyer crafted at Silver Oak. In 1991, he stopped making a single vineyard wine, insisting that silver Oak's worldwide popularity made it too troublesome to continue to make a 400 case production wine, with every customer assuming that they could buy access to that limited production wine.

Justin's son Matt, who will be joining us Saturday, finally talked the family into returning to a Bonny's Vineyard Cabernet in 2001; Justin Meyer passed away suddenly in 2003 and never saw the release of the wine. The 2003 is the inaugural release of that wine, and along with that we will be sampling their Spitfire Cabernet, Highground Syrah, Syrah, Rose and Port. So if you remember the Silver Oak Bonny's of old, swing by on Saturday to go back in time. If you never tasted those wines, but are interested in the style of wines that built Silver Oak into the powerhouse it is today, we hope to see you too!

Happy Tasting and we'll see you on Saturday,

Doug Frost, MS MW
Master Sommelier & Master of Wine

Another 2010 Rhone Winner For $9.99

2010 Les Vignerons "Prestige" CDR

Release Price: $13.99
Winestore Price: $9.99
SAVE 29%

Save an additional 5% on mixed 6-11 bottles and 10% on mixed cases

There are very few of the super hyped 2010 Rhone wines left in the marketplace. It's just the way the wine business works. Customers go into a feeding frenzy when the consensus comes back that a vintage is "epic" and the wine goes flying away. The delicious, but less heralded 2011s will start to arrive soon, but we got lucky and stumbled upon this little gem as it was just hanging out at the winery, asking to be brought over to the US.

St. Hilaire has pretty much mastered the inexpensive daily drinker and the 2010 Les Vignerons "Prestige" Cotes du Rhone is a primo example of their fine work. You probably have not ever heard of it. People don't use words like "epic" to describe it. That said, it tastes great, is inexpensive, and is going to go great with my BBQ sandwich and potato salad tonight.

We have it on the machine at all three stores to taste just in case you don't believe us - but this may be your new house wine.
