Winestore Price: $18.99
"Victory" SALE Price: $14.99 (net)

Sale price good through January 31st, 2013

We can't make this stuff up people. Seriously, we're not that smart. The winner of the 2013 Silver Oak Blind tasting is the 2010 Gundlach Bundschu Mountain Cuvee. Interesting note, the 2012 winner was Jeff Bundschu's value phenom Rockus Bockus, so this is basically a repeat champion! However, unlike last year this was a pretty close battle. The top three (out of 8 wines) vote earners were:

1st Place -   2010 Gundlach Bundschu Mountain Cuvee
                    87 votes first place votes
2nd Place -  2010 Jeff Runquist 1448
                    78 votes first place votes
3rd Place -   TIE
                    2009 Rockus Bockus
                    2009 Laurel Glen Counterpoint

                    75 first place votes each

We had a record turnout this year, so thank you to all of you who came out! As in life, to the victor goes the spoils - so we will be celebrating the Gun Bun victory with a pretty silly sale through Thursday. You'll be able to pick up some of this gem for the lowest price in the US (well, the world for that matter) - $14.99 per bottle. We hope you enjoy it as much as your peers did this weekend!

Taste Silver Oak Blind Vs. $25 Rivals!

Taste Silver Oak Blind vs. $25 Rivals!

Featuring 2008 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet

It's that time again - time for our 6th Annual Silver Oak Blind Tasting. This is certainly one of our most popular tastings every year, and we're pretty sure our 6th Annual will be the best yet!  Just last year, the 2008 Rockus Bockus (retail price $12.99) came in 1st place in this tasting - besting not only 2007 Silver Oak Alexander Valley, but also 6 other wines with an average retail price of $33. It almost seems unfair, I mean a Tesla is supposed to go faster than a Kia, and a $60 wine is supposed to taste better than a $12 one. Right? Well, maybe not. A wine's success isn't measured in MpH, it's measured in the taste that is transferred from the glass to your mouth. If you don't know the price, can't see the label, and can't hear someone barking in your ear about the wine's "score," then all that is left is the juice and your taste buds. It's a scary proposition for any winemaker. That's why you have marketing departments that design catchy labels, create campaigns to build a wine's image, and spend all of their time and energy essentially trying to convince consumers that a wine is great. The problem is that you can't out "market" a blind tasting.
Which is why we're playing "Find the Silver Oak" this Saturday. It's simple really. The wines will all be tasted blind on our tasting machines. One of them will be 2008 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet and the others will be an assortment of wines at every price point, from a number of different regions. All you have to do is taste and pick your favorite. Yes, that's right, your favorite. If that's the Silver Oak, then great, if not, well that's OK too. You may be surprised as to what your favorites actually are.

We hope to see you Saturday - t
his is always a fun event!

Better than "The Prisoner" for $14.99?

2010 Banshee "Mordecai" Red Blend

http://www.bansheewines.com/assets/images/wines//pictures/2010-Mordecai-Front-Label.png

Release Price: $24.99
Winestore Price: $19.99
Six Pack Price: $14.99

SAVE 40%

We promised you some killer deals in 2013 and the first one we offer you may very well end up being the best. Fans of "The Prisoner" need to go ahead and line up because we may have found you a better alternative at over half the price.

Banshee Wines has some Charlotte roots and we bought every last bottle we could get our hands on no less than 10 seconds after we tasted this wine. What is in Modecai? Well, it is a blend of Cabernet, Syrah, Merlot, Cab Franc, Petite Verdot, Petite Sirah, Grenache, Montepulciano, Mourvedre, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir and Carignane (you read all that correctly).

Rumors of vineyard sources like Whitehawk, Alder Springs, Parmalee Hill and others let you know that the quality is there - and at a price that, by the six pack, is almost pure insanity.

We hope you love it as much as we do!

"One of the epic vintages of this generation"

2010 Southern Rhone Tasting!
Saturday January 19th, 2013
11am - 8pm

http://conqueringthecenturyclub.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/chateauneuf-sign.jpg

What top critics are saying:

"There's not much to say about 2010 that hasn't been intensely discussed already. It's almost universally regarded as one of the epic vintages of this generation, with growers comparing it to legendary years like 2005, 1990, 1978 and 1959.
- Steven Tanzer's Wine Access

"I place 2010 in the top three of my 40 years covering the Rhône, alongside the 1978 and the 1990"
- Decanter Magazine

"I can’t remember a vintage so concentrated, powerful and rich that also has such zesty acidity."
- Robert Parker' Wine Advocate

Featuring:
2010 Clos St. Jean Vieilles Vignes
2010 Domaine Charvin Chateauneuf du Pape
2010 Clos St. Jean "Combe de Fous"
2010 Domaine la Garrigue "Cuvee Hostellerie"
2010 Reserve Dame de L'Oiseau Cotes du Rhone
2010 Roger Sabon Chateauneuf "Les Olivets"
2010 Domaine la Janasse Cotes du Rhone

The first quote we placed above was made yesterday (Jan. 16th) by world renowned wine writer Josh Raynolds for Steve Tanzer's Wine Access Journal. It was given after he re-evaluated the 2010 Rhone's one year after his first tasting. After reading it, we decided to re-taste these amazing wines with you guys! We did our first 2010 Rhone Tasting last July and it was a smashing success. Now it is time to taste some more with a whole new lineup! We'll also have 2010's ranging in price from $9.99 to $149.99 so there will be a little something for everybody.

The last several vintages have been very kind to Southern Rhone producers, and yet the 2010 wines could best them all according to the wine glitterati. Domaine de la Janasse, Roger Sabon, Clos Saint Jean and Domaine Charvin in Chateauneuf-du-Pape are all the rage at the moment among the critics, and for good reason. They make utterly lush and delicious wines, and yet they are not wines that have sold their souls (ya know, with high alcohol, over-extraction, too much oak and the like) in order to get blessed from he-who-must-not-be-named. These wines are rich and impressive, but they not only retain their souls, they HAVE soul. Character. Personality. Whatever.

Maybe California Cabernet is your thing and you just are not that into wines from the Southern Rhone. Well, this is your chance to see what you have been missing. Maybe you are a huge fan of Chateauneuf. Well, this is your sweet spot. If you love wine, love good wine, love trying new things and love a good time - you may want to swing by on Saturday. If you do not like wine, do not like trying new things and do not enjoy a good time - this may not be up your alley :)

As always, THANK YOU for your business and we hope to see you Saturday. The wines should be off the charts.

Featuring:
2011 Belle Glos "Meiomi" Pinot Noir (California)
2010 Belle Glos "Clark & Telephone" Pinot Noir (California)
2011 Arterberry Maresh "Gehrts Vineyard" Pinot Noir (Oregon)

2011 Arterberry Maresh "Dundee Hills" Pinot Noir (Oregon)
2011 Hahn "SLH" Pinot Noir (California)

2010 Williams Selyem "Vista Verde" Pinot Noir (California)
2010 Williams Selyem "Weir Vineyard" Pinot Noir (California)
2010 Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (California)

Calling all Pinotfiles!!!  This weekend you will finally have the chance to taste some of the best Pinot Noir being produced in the United States. Nothing says 73 degree weather in January like Pinot Noir, so we've decided to go ahead and put together some of the most sought after and delicious Pinot Noirs in the United States and we're calling it the Pinot Noir Battle Royale!

You'll be able to compare California blockbusters from Caymus (producers of Belle Glos), Williams Selyem, Hahn, and Merry Edwards as well as a new titan of Oregon (and US) Pinot Noir - Arterberry Maresh. We always love putting great wines up against each other - it not only gives you the ability to really taste and see what type of styles you like, but you are also given the chance to compare and contrast notes with other fellow customers who are just as excited as you are about these great wines.

The tasting is simple.  Show up on Saturday, grab your tasting cards and sample each of these fantastic Pinots to decide which producer and style you love best. We'll probably have the doors propped open to enjoy the sunshine too.  We'll have paper and pens for you to make notes and great pricing should you feel the urge to bring home a few of these phenomenal wines.

This tasting should prove to be one of our best so far and we look forward to seeing each of you on Saturday!

Cheers,

The winestore. team

$9.99 For Some Rocking Rhone!

2010 Reserve de la Dame a L'Oiseau

Release Price: $13.99
Winestore Price: $9.99
SAVE 29%

Save an additional 5% on mixed 6-11 bottles and 10% on mixed cases

There is A LOT of hype in the wine business. I mean, for some people buying wine is like an arms race - buy with abandon, drink nothing, chase points, continue to build the collection. What about those of us that just want to drink some great wine with our lasagna tonight? You know, a wine that costs less than $10 bucks that we can sip on while we watch Downton Abbey. Nothing hyped up. Nothing over-priced. It needs to out drink it's price though - we don't buy the less expensive stuff just because it is less expensive. It HAS to perform.

Enter the 2010 Reserve de la Dame a L'Oiseau Cotes du Rhone. You probably have not ever heard of it. It gets zero hype. Like the 2009s, the southern Rhone wines of 2010 are juicy, ripe and utterly pleasing. This little lady is full of fruit, food friendly, and out-performs on every level.

We have it on the machine at all three stores to taste just in case you don't believe us - but this may be your new house wine.

2010 Jeff Runquist 1448 Red Blend           ($17.99)

It's a new year, and time for some NEW vintages of your favorite Jeff Runquist wines! If there is still a winemaker that is as hot as ever, it is Jeff Runquist. His wines are the ultimate crowd pleasers - the type of wines you can pour for your friends and people will be talking about them for days. That is why we are putting together a tasting of almost all of his wines. Love Petite Sirah? Try to find one better than Runquist....Love Petit Verdot? Probably not, but it doesn't matter because nobody does it better in California...Love Zinfandel? This may even be better than Klinker Brick :) Barbera? Don't even get us started...

These are big wines, perfect for this cold weather (or warm - we're all over the place here in Charlotte!!) and best of all is that they are fun wines. Drinking wine is fun and when you put some Jeff Runquist in the glass the fun factor goes up by several basis points. Oh - and did we mention you can't buy these wines for less anywhere in NC!

As an added bonus, we'll be adding a 10% bonus to your Enoround purchases this Saturday. For example, put $10 on your tasting card for the Runquist lineup and we'll throw you an extra dollar just for being your awesome self.

As always, THANK YOU for your business and we hope to see you this weekend!

Happy New Year! We survived the end of the world, the fiscal cliff and all sorts of other craziness so we MUST be rewarded with outstanding wine to drink, right? So we're bringing out a brand new arrival and what is perhaps the most delicious white wine you have never heard of, all for only $11.99! Mostly made of a little grape no one knows called Merseguera, with a bit of help from Viognier and Malvasia, this new southern Spanish white is completely charming and utterly fascinating.

Bodegas Mustiguillo makes some of our most popular reds including a red Mestis and the single vineyard Bobal called Finca Terrerazo. They were also one of only two Spanish wineries in 2011 to be awarded the coveted Vino de Pago status. Long story short - they are on a pretty epic roll.

So stump all your wine geek friends by mentioning that your new daily sipping white wine is a blend of Merseguera and Malvasia. Their wine geek minds will be completely blown, especially when you let them try this astonishingly good wine for only $12 bucks.
