Saturday October 24th - Sunday October 25th

All Day Long!

International Wine Celebrity / Importer and Charlottean Eric Solomon is well known for bringing "the next big thing" to the United States - and his new import, La Peira, might very well be "the next big thing". We have gone completely ga-ga over these wines - but chances are you probably have never heard of the winery or ever even tasted their wines. Their flagship wine "La Peira" has an annual worldwide production of only 1,500 bottles (compare that to the 420,000 bottle production of Caymus Cabernet) and even their less expensive offerings are offered only in minuscule quantities. That is why we are more than excited to be the first in North Carolina and one of the first in the Country to showcase these wines for you.

Here is just a little of what the wine press has been saying:

"The flagship wine from this new venture is easily going to be the next great global cult wine. Think Clos Erasmus or Masseto; that’s the level of quality that this wine brings!"
- Gary Vaynerchuk

"This wine will ring changes on your palate for a decade. The deep alluvial fan that is the basis for this site is only barely tilted, as it might be in St. Helena or Rutherford, St.-Estephe or Pomerol ... and these comparisons will not seem inapt once you experience the quality of La Peira’s wines."
- Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The most apt analogy, perhaps, is the publisher’s slush pile—that legendary stack of unsolicited manuscripts where, sandwiched between laborious first novels, eccentric diets, and the childhood reminiscences of the elderly, the house reader dreams of finding a golden text to wave at cynical seniors. So with the samples delivered to the homes of those who write about wine. All deserve a taste, most a note, but I’ve never come across one that rearranged my inner pantheon in the way that truly great wine can. Never, that is, until a few weeks ago. Then it was that a relatively ramshackle package of boxes arrived from the Languedoc containing 11 bottles and a text. The bottles (cask samples, in the main) had beautiful, austerely classical labels with puzzling, hard-to-pronounce names. No UK importer, let alone retailer. Just an apologetic e-mail, a few days earlier, from one of the wine’s creators, Rob Dougan, alluding to their presence a year before at a tasting in Bordeaux that I’d been unable to attend. Enough waffle. These are the best unsolicited samples anyone has ever sent me."
-Andrew Jefford

If that wasn't enough to get you excited, you can check out a great video by clicking here. Now...after all of that if you are not even the least intrigued to come be one of the first to experience these wines then I am not sure what else we can do!

Here are two of the wines we will be featuring:

2005 Las Flors de La Peira
http://winelibrary.com/images/42448.jpg

Only 4,400 bottles produced

Regular Price: $55.00
Winestore Price: $39.99 (net)
Save 27%

Hyperbole aside, this is one of the best wines we have tasted in 2009, regardless of price. Buy one to lay down in your wine cabinet, buy one for your loved one, buy one for your boss, or just buy one because this is just brilliant wine from a brilliant vintage at a great price.

2007 Les Obriers de la Peira

Regular Price: $26.00
Winestore Price: $19.99
Save 23% (Save an extra 5% on six bottles or an extra 10% on 12 bottles or more)

An extraordinary value from the super hyped 2007 vintage, we think Robert Parker's Wine Advocate said it best when they stated "In my fantasy world where the authorities require every Languedoc vigneron to protect some old Cinsault and Carignan vines, they should all be required as well to taste La Peira’s 2007 Les Obriers de la Peira". This stuff flat out rocks!!

Would you like to taste more amazing and hard to find wine? Your wish is our command! This weekend we will also be tasting:

Etiket Calendal Côtes du Rhône
2007 Philippe Cambie Cotes du Rhone Calendal

Our friend Robert Parker described this wine best when he said "Another up-and-coming but little known estate from the Cotes du Ventoux, this could well be one of the next hot cult wines from Provence given the quality of this release. A blend of 75% Grenache and the rest Syrah, Carignan, and Cinsault, the wine has a deep ruby/purple color, a natural savory mouthfeel with terrific ripeness, soft but noticeable tannins in addition to plenty of Provencal herbs, pepper, and meaty black cherry and black currant fruit notes."

The 2007 vintage in California is about as hyped up as you can get - and from $10 wines to $70 wines the quality is outstanding across the board. That is why, this weekend, we are putting up some of the best wines we've tasted from the 2007 vintage. Everything from Sangiovese to Cabernet these wines simply rocked. Here is a short list of just some of what we will be featuring (there will be more!):

2007 Robert Foley "The Griffin" - Who doesn't want a Robert Foley wine that has huge fruit and smooth tannin for only $35. This is a brand new wine for the winemaking master behind cult wines like Switchback Ridge. We think you guys are going to go ga ga over this stuff. It is a blend of Cabernet, Petite Sirah and Merlot - Foley calls it his Recession Red.

2007 Jeff Runquist Sangiovese - We know you love the Petite Sirah - but have you ever had Jeff Runquist's Sangiovese? It may be his best wine but only 14 cases are brought into the State of NC every year. Don't worry, we snagged some for you and we'll have it up this weekend so you can check it out for yourself.

2007 Turn 4 Cabernet - Can someone say "Showstopper"? This new release from Bennett Lane Winery (yes, they make $90 Cabernets) is a dream machine for less than $25. One of the best sub $25 Cabs we have tasted in a long time!

2007 Caymus Cabernet - For all you who missed it last time - we're putting it out again!!

2007 Michael David Petite Petit - A consistent favorite that, for only $15, very well make you think twice about this wine with circus elephants on the label. This is BIG stuff

2007 Wall Cabernet - You know you love this wine - now just wait until you try the 2007 vintage of this gem.

If you made it this far you should also know that we are also going to be tasting, this weekend, what could be our Wine of the Year. It is, by far, the best red wine we have tasted yet in 2009 and we bought everything there is in NC. It can be yours for only $39.99 which also happens to be the lowest price in the Country. You don't want to miss this!

Regular Price: $39.99

Winestore Price: $24.99 (net)

Save 37% or $15.00 a bottle

Compare prices by clicking here!

We here at winestore. are constantly on the prowl for great deals to offer you. Right after the blind Merry Edwards tasting we went to our distributors and asked what we could do to get this amazing pinot (and hit of the tasting) to the consumer friendly price of $24.99. Couple of days later - Voila!

Jamey Whetstone is a native of Charleston, SC and here is a brief bio on him (written by Jamey himself :)): "I started working at Turley Wine Cellars in the summer of 1998 when I semi-jokingly told a friend I’d do just about anything for a shot at winemaking (be very careful what you ask for.). Over the following 6 & ½ years I would plant 30 acres of hillside vineyard, become fluent in Spanish, help manage over 200 organically farmed acres of grapes, become assistant winemaker, start my own label, and begin consulting full time. Turley provided for me a venue to do all those things with a continuing education in hands-on farming and meticulous, cutting-edge winemaking. To further enhance my small winery experience, I went to work in Burgundy for Domaine Dujac during a short stint in the summer of 2001."

The 2006 Jon Boat is a must have for true pinot lovers at this price. We don't have much in inventory so to get yours you can either:

Blind Taste Merry Edwards vs. $15 Rivals!

Blind Taste Merry Edwards Pinot Noir

Saturday October 3rd, 2009

11am - 8pm

As you know, we have had several blind Cabernet tastings over the last few months - all of them huge hits. The Pinot Noir drinkers though have been asking "Where's our blind tasting?" Well, we've put together an amazing blind tasting of Pinot Noir for this Saturday with some real doozies! This Saturday we will be tasting 2007Merry Edwards Russian River Pinot Noir blind against 7 other rivals. Merry Edwards Pinot is one of the best known and most sought after California Pinot Noirs on the market today (and the 2007 vintage for Pinot Noir is stellar to say the least) and now it is time to put it to the test.

If you don't know the price, can't see the label, and can't hear someone barking in your ear about the wine's "score," then all that is left is the juice and your taste buds. It's a scary proposition for any winemaker. That's why you have marketing departments that design catchy labels, create campaigns to build a wine's image, and spend all of their time and energy essentially trying to convince consumers that a wine is great. The problem is that you can't out "market" a blind tasting.

Which is why we're playing "Find the Merry Edwards" this Saturday. It's simple really. Eight wines will all be tasted blind. One of them will be 2007 Merry Edwards Russian River Pinot Noir and the others will be an assortment of wines at every price point from a number of different regions. All you have to do is taste and pick your favorite. Yes, that's right, your favorite. If that's the Merry Edwards, then great, if not, well that's OK too. You may be surprised as to what your favorites actually are.

Get ready to taste some amazing Pinot Noir!
